Overview
Actuary, Personal Line Auto Analytics role at Liberty Mutual Insurance. Lead work on state indications to support rate guidance and profitability actions for the Personal Lines Auto portfolio.
Responsibilities
- Lead work on state indications that serve as a foundation for rate guidance, ensuring that rate actions and underwriting levers improve each state’s profit position.
- Shape state indication strategy using a robust suite of actuarial methods.
- Identify and propose enhancements to processes and methodologies to drive operational excellence.
- Collaborate with Risk Analytics experts and Directors of State Operations to develop customized state levers and ensure a comprehensive understanding of state features.
- Share insights and recommendations that influence state-level decision-making and contribute to top-quartile profitability.
- Build trust and relationships to influence decisions and execution beyond the Auto Analytics team.
- Contribute to fostering an inclusive, equitable, and high-performing culture; coach and mentor junior team members.
In This Role, You Can Expect To
- Deliver state-level indications to internal stakeholders to drive actions and influence profitability.
- Build indications tools and processes to increase understanding of methodology and inform state profitability).
- Identify opportunities, drive analysis, and make recommendations to develop, evaluate, and enhance state-level profitability.
- Act as a trusted partner to State Management to inform state-specific pricing and underwriting tactics.
- Collaborate with CW Indications, CW State Analytics, Actuarial, Finance, Claims and Data Science to assess and improve state-focused profitability.
- Support cross-team initiatives to enrich deliverables with state-specific insights.
- Build trust and credibility with teams beyond State Analytics to drive decisions and execution.
- Support an inclusive, equitable, and high-performing culture; coach and mentor junior team members.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Associateship or Fellowship in the Casualty Actuarial Society (ACAS/FCAS) or in Society of Actuaries (ASA/FSA) designation preferred or comparable experience.
- Minimum 5-7 years relevant experience.
- Strong knowledge of actuarial techniques and related business operations including financial, underwriting, statistics, claims, and sales.
- Advanced communication and interpersonal skills; ability to build relationships across the organization.
- Ability to motivate and mentor peers and subordinates.
- Advanced computing skills (MS Office Excel, SAS, etc.) with ability to build complex models.

The full salary range reflects market value and provides opportunities for growth. Some roles may include commission and/or bonus earnings as per the compensation plan.

Base pay range
$117,000.00/yr - $225,000.00/yr
