Safety Supervisor
This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Spring Hill GPS (Global Propulsion Systems) on a full-time basis.
The Safety Supervisor is accountable for providing Workplace Safety technical and regulatory advice, mentoring, guiding, and coaching to site/functional operations. They are responsible for assisting Site Leadership with the following to maintain compliance with all GM Workplace Safety and regulatory requirements:
Analyzing Workplace Safety data and communicating results and trends along with continuous improvement opportunities; Assessing site Workplace Safety performance and conformance to requirements
Working in partnership with the local site leadership to support Workplace Safety cultural transformation
Developing and educating site employees to drive Workplace Safety cultural transformation; and Developing partnerships with key site personnel including Manufacturing and Non-Manufacturing Leadership, Human Resources, Industrial Hygiene and Ergonomics resources, and Health Services
Leads a team of Safety professionals to support a site and/or region in the implementation of Safety processes.
Develops valuable strategic direction that drives successful execution of Global Workplace Safety
Safety Supervisor is responsible for coordinating/directing health & safety activities for facility or functional areas to eliminate industrial accidents
Advise management on continued development of safety and health culture
Provide direction, trains, develops and evaluates employees
Assist in the implementation and interpret the safety and health provisions of local and national labor agreements.
Facilitate the investigation of accidents and/or injuries: conduct safety audit, surveys, and inspections to verify compliance levels
Maintain awareness of state and federal safety regulations; corporate policies and procedures regarding safety and industrial health
Develop and implement programs to reduce job related injuries
Meet with local union representative and lead in resolution of safety matters
Review and approve new equipment and methods for potential hazards
Analyze safety statistics and develop recommendations
Provide technical guidance to management on Health & Safety issues
Participate in Health & Safety committees
Maintain positive relationships with local union leadership and management
Accompany compliance officers and prepare required data
Demonstrate complete job knowledge and understanding of assigned work area
Strong interpersonal skills in facilitation, negotiation, and conflict resolution
Bachelor's Degree
Industrial Safety related experience
Ability to work independently, take initiative, and work to plan
Well developed analytical, organizational, and project management skills
Well developed written and verbal communications skills
Well developed use of HR Systems and Computer Software Application skills
Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety/Industrial Hygiene / related discipline
Masters preferred - occupational safety or industrial environmental health
