Welding Specialist Position - Advanced Processes & Automation
The specialist position focuses primarily on advanced welding operations, including automated systems and laser welding. The ideal candidate will be an experienced welder with automation experience.
Primary Responsibilities (Welding & Automation):
- Setup and operation of various welding processes including:
- Traditional processes (MIG, TIG, Stick)
- Laser welding systems
- Robotic welding cells
- Automated welding equipment
- Program and operate automated welding systems and robotic cells
- Configure and optimize laser welding parameters
- Interpret and work from blueprints, drawings, and welding symbols
- Perform complex welding operations on various materials including steel alloys, aluminum, titanium, and nickel-based alloys
- Develop and optimize welding procedures and parameters for both manual and automated processes
- Monitor and maintain automated welding systems
- Troubleshoot automation equipment and resolve technical issues
- Conduct visual inspection of welds and assist with weld testing procedures
- Execute proper material preparation and fit-up procedures
- Provide technical feedback on weldment design and manufacturability
- Train and mentor less experienced welders in both manual and automated processes
5+ years of professional welding experience
Experience with automated welding systems and/or laser welding
Understanding of robotic programming and operations
Current welding certifications (specific certifications as required)
Proven expertise in multiple welding processes and positions
Strong knowledge of metallurgy and material properties
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T
Experience with quality control and inspection procedures
Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
Experience with PLC systems and automated equipment interfaces
Excellent communication skills for interaction with engineers and team members
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience programming robotic welding systems
- Advanced knowledge of laser welding technology
- Experience with exotic materials and specialized welding processes
- Background in weld process automation and optimization
- Basic computer skills and willingness to learn new technologies
- Interest in additive manufacturing and new manufacturing technologies
- Experience in a precision manufacturing environment
The successful candidate will execute work independently while seeking guidance when needed. They will be expected to maintain high-quality standards, follow safety protocols, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
