Intermediate HVAC Technician

The Intermediate HVAC Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. This position requires knowledge of HVAC systems, troubleshooting skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities include installing, inspecting, maintaining, and repairing HVAC systems in residential, commercial, and industrial settings, ensuring they operate efficiently. Use diagnostic tools and techniques to identify and resolve problems in HVAC systems, including electrical and mechanical issues. Perform system testing, calibration, and adjustments to ensure optimal functionality and compliance with safety and industry standards. Maintain records of installations, repairs, and maintenance activities, including parts used and labor time. Work with senior technicians and other team members on complex installations or repairs, occasionally providing guidance to junior technicians. Comply with safety protocols and regulatory requirements, including EPA guidelines and company policies, to ensure a safe working environment. Other duties assigned by management.

Working Relationships include external service vendors and internal FSS Field Service Technicians, Construction Project Managers, and Store Personnel.

Requirements include a minimum education of a high school diploma or GED, with a preferred completion of a formal HVAC/R training program. Minimum experience is 3-5 years of HVAC/R experience, with a preferred experience of 5+ years. Licenses/Certifications include Universal EPA, State Journeyman preferred. Soft skills include the ability to multi-task, handle stress and pressure responding to emergency & urgent situations, strong communication skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities. Proficiency in using HVAC diagnostic tools and meters, understanding electrical and refrigeration systems, and reading schematics and technical manuals is also required.

Other requirements include travel available to travel 50%. Must have a clean driving record. Hours & Conditions are M-F 8 AM to 4:30 PM, 40 hours per week minimum. On-call and overtime hours as needed. Physical requirements include the ability to maneuver and regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 80 pounds. Ability to stand/walk 8 hours a day; reach overhead, bend, squat, twist, reach, grasp, grip, and work in cooler/freezer (cold temperatures). The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
