About UPMC Altoona’s T11 Trauma unit:
Tower 11 is a 44-bed unit specializing in orthopedic, trauma, neurological, and medical-surgical care for adults. We are the preferred choice for patients requiring orthopedic surgeries, neurological procedures, fractures, trauma, and post-operative joint care. Our team of nurses, assistants, therapists, physicians, and case managers collaborates to deliver exceptional care.

Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with medical staff to monitor patient outcomes, set quality priorities, and implement safety initiatives. Use data and evidence-based practices to improve clinical care and patient satisfaction. Share learning across units and system-wide.
• Build productive relationships through mentoring, positive communication, conflict resolution, and promoting a culture of diversity and inclusion. Support staff well-being and effective communication.
• Create a shared vision for the unit, utilizing critical thinking and data to develop operational plans. Lead complex change management and involve stakeholders in planning and redesign efforts.
• Promote a culture of caring centered on Relationship Based Care, ensuring nurses adhere to clinical standards and best practices. Manage resources efficiently, including staffing and budget.
• Set high performance standards, foster professional growth, and support staff development, orientation, continuing education, and certification pursuits. Recruit nursing students and support shared governance initiatives.
• Lead and develop clinicians reporting directly to the Unit Director, providing mentorship, performance reviews, and recruitment support.
• Ensure staff have necessary competencies, and facilitate ongoing training and evaluation.

Minimum Qualifications:

• BSN required at hire; MSN or higher preferred. If not in nursing, a master's in nursing is required.
• At least 4 years of progressive leadership experience with relevant clinical background preferred.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills to support a healing environment with patients, families, staff, physicians, and leadership.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

• Current RN license (state-specific or multistate NLC)
• CPR certification
• NIH Stroke Scale Certification
• Act 34 clearance
