Operating Room Tech (CST) Assignment Summary

• Experience Required:
  • Minimum 3 years of experience
  • Strong orthopedic background (including total joints, sports med, hands, trauma)
  • Previous travel experience preferred
  • Must have SPD and HLD experience

Assignment Requirements

• Certifications Required:
  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST)
  • Must be certified by NCCT or NBSTSA
• Case Types:
  • Ortho (total joints, sports med, hands, trauma)
  • General surgery
  • GYN
  • C-sections
  • Endoscopy

Department Details

• # of Suites: 4 OR suites + 1 Endoscopy suite
• Avg. Cases/Day: 8
• Scrub Color/Dress Code: Blue scrubs (provided by facility per surgical services attire policy)
• Cleaning Responsibilities: All OR personnel help clean and turn over ORs (including travelers)

Scheduling & Call

• Shifts:
  • Monday – Friday, 8-hour shifts (typically 07:00–15:30)
  • May be adjusted as needed
• Weeknight Call:
  • Starts at 15:00
  • Typically 1 night/week or 4 nights/month
  • May increase if staffing is low
• Weekend Call:
  • Typically 1 full weekend/month (Friday–Sunday)
• Holiday Call:
  • If a holiday falls during the contract, holiday call may be assigned
• Call Response Time: Must be within 30 minutes of the hospital while on-call

Floating

• CSTs must float to Endoscopy
• Must assist with SPD and HLD (including cleaning and washing instruments, especially for call coverage)

Orientation

• Traveler will be paired with a preceptor
• Orientation includes:
  • Unit-specific protocols
  • Unit norms
  • Health system values

Leadership & Support

• Charge Nurse and ANM available on each shift
