Pathology Assistant Qualifications

Minimum 2 years of experience as a Pathology Assistant in a hospital or clinical laboratory setting
Proficient in specimen accessioning, labeling, and grossing
Strong organizational, prioritization, and communication skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team
Commitment to laboratory safety, compliance, and hospital policies

Pathology Assistant Responsibilities

Maintain accurate accession records and ensure proper specimen labeling and fixation in accordance with hospital laboratory standards
Perform grossing with detailed, concise, and complete descriptions and dissections for surgical pathology specimens
Enhance laboratory efficiency through effective task prioritization, workflow coordination, and clinical support
Verify specimen receipt and integrity; coordinate activities with clerical and professional staff
Conduct quality audits and maintain clean, sterile work areas and laboratory instruments
Perform preventive maintenance on laboratory equipment as per hospital policy
Support staffing needs across all shifts, including weekends and holidays
Communicate professionally with medical staff, hospital personnel, and supervisors
Comply with all hospital and laboratory safety requirements and healthcare regulations
Contribute to departmental improvements and perform additional duties as assigned
