About The Position
Job Title: Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Registered Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology and BMT/Cellular Therapy License: Valid State License Preferred Certifications: BLS, PALS, Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Provider Card Must-Have: Pediatric and BMT/Cellular exposure and experience required First-timers accepted with 3+ years of experience Weekend requirements Description: The Pediatric Hematology/Oncology unit provides intermediate level of care to patients ages 0-18. Obstetric patients less than 18 with a new Hematology/Oncology/BMT diagnosis are assessed on a case-by-case basis. Patients with specific pediatric oncology diagnoses may be followed until the age of 25 years. Presenting diagnoses may include leukemia, brain tumors, bone tumors, sarcoma, lymphomas, blood diseases, immunological diseases, storage diseases, and Graft vs Host Disease patients. Nurses on this unit also provide support to Hematology/Oncology/BMT patients on other units, including chemotherapy support and expertise with central lines. The facility is a Magnet, Level I Trauma Center, and Teaching Hospital. The unit is supported by interdisciplinary services such as IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, and pharmacy. Special procedures include chemotherapy administration, bone marrow transplant infusion, and moderate sedation for procedures. Patient ratios are typically 1:3 during days and nights. Daily census averages around 15 patients. Candidates will float within the hospital as required.
