9 hr shifts (M-F with a variable day off each week) • Primarily evening shifts (ending at 2030, 2130 or 2230)
 

💡 Experience Required

• PACU Travel Experience Required
• Must have cared for both peds and adults
• Prefer candidates from large hospitals
• Minimum 2 years PACU experience
• EPIC experience is mandatory

👩‍⚕️ Unit Details

• Recovery Phases: Combined Phase I & Phase II recovery in one area.

• Recovery Areas:

  • Main PACU: Adult inpatients
  • Outpatient PACU: Adult outpatients
  • Pediatric PACU: Inpatient & outpatient pediatric patients

  Nurses will rotate across all areas during shifts.

• Nurse:Patient Ratio: 1:2 (based on ASPAN standards)
• Shifts Staffed:
  • Mon-Fri: 25–26 RNs
  • Overnight: 2 RNs (Mon–Sun)
  • Weekend: 1 RN with call team (no call for travelers)
• Shift Structure:
  • Four 9-hour shifts (Mon–Fri)
  • End times: 2030, 2130, or 2230
  • No self-scheduling; option for a 3-day weekend

⚕️ Required Certifications

🩺 Clinical Details

• Patient Volume: 75–90 cases/day
• Common Cases:
  • Total joints, neuro, cardiac, plastics
  • Cath lab, IR, endoscopy
  • Pediatrics (ENT, spine surgeries, complex cases)
  • Note: Open heart cases are not recovered in PACU
• ICU Patients: Recovered in PACU if not intubated
• Airway Support: Oral airways common; RT available for intubated patients
• Equipment Used: CPAP, BiPAP, vents (as needed)
• RNs Read Strips: Yes (electronically)

👶 Pediatrics

• Recover children as young as a few months old
• Common pediatric cases: ENT (tonsils, tubes), major spine surgeries
• Experience caring for both peds and adults required

🧑‍🤝‍🧑 Staff & Support

• Charge Nurses: Rarely take patients
• CNAs (6–7 Mon-Fri): Assist with:
  • Transport, mobility assessments
  • IV removal, bladder trials
  • EKGs, phlebotomy, room turnover, cleaning stretchers
• Manager/ANMs: On-site Mon–Fri
• Anesthesia Team: Very supportive and readily available
• Communication Tool: Voalte (can text anesthesia/surgeons)

🔄 Orientation & Floating

• Orientation: 3 shifts (1 per recovery area)
• Floating:
  • Rare
  • Possible to Meridian or Nampa PACU only
  • May float to Pre-Op if experienced

🧥 Dress Code

• Scrubs: Blue scrubs provided by facility
