Travel Nursing Job Details

Job Title: NICU Registered Nurse – Travel Nurse
Assignment Type: Travel Nursing
Location: Abilene, TX 79606 (West Texas healthcare jobs)
Unit: Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
Shift: Night shifts, 3x12-hour (19:00 - 07:00)
Hours per Week: 36
Contract Duration: 13 weeks (Start: 9/29/2025 – End: 12/29/2025)
Weekend Coverage: 5 weekend days per 6-week schedule
Orientation: 16 hours, plus 6-8 hours of modules during orientation
Local Rule: Must reside at least 150 miles from facility
Estimated Weekly Salary: $1700-$1820

Registered Nurse Qualifications

Minimum 2 years of recent NICU RN experience in a U.S. hospital setting
First-time travel nurses welcome
Active Registered Nurse license (Texas or compact state license required at submission)
Required certifications: BLS, NRP, STABLE
Ability to float to Mother Baby or North Campus units as needed
Experience with electronic charting systems (Altera preferred)
Must complete required lab items within 72 hours of offer acceptance
Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions accepted)

NICU Nurse Responsibilities

Provide high-quality, compassionate nursing care to neonates in a Level II NICU
Administer blood products, antibiotics, antivirals, and perform APGAR scoring
Assist with lumbar punctures and attend high-risk deliveries
Operate Bubble CPAP, high flow nasal cannula, and high frequency ventilation equipment
Calculate and administer neonatal dosages; care for neonates > 34 weeks gestation
Perform endotracheal tube suctioning, phlebotomy, and IV maintenance
Educate and support families throughout the NICU stay
Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams including physical therapy, respiratory therapy, radiology, social services, pharmacy, and rapid response teams
Maintain flexibility to float to other clinical units or campuses as needed
