Position Overview:

Beverly & Addison Gilbert Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) for a 13-week day shift travel assignment in the Ambulatory Surgery Operating Room located in Danvers, MA. The RNFA will assist in surgical procedures by performing duties including tissue handling, suturing, and ensuring proper exposure of the surgical site. Candidates must demonstrate a high level of clinical competency and commitment to delivering high-quality care.

Certifications & Requirements:

• Active MA RN License (must be current at time of submission)
• BLS (AHA) – Required
• CNOR – Preferred
• Completion of an RNFA program with a supervised clinical component – Required
• Flu Vaccine 2025–2026 – Required at time of submission (declinations not accepted)
• BILH Coversheet – Required
• Cannot have worked (perm/travel/PRN) at any Beth Israel facility within the last 6 months

Experience Required:

• 2–3 years of recent experience as an Operating Room Nurse
• Proven clinical competency as an RN First Assistant
• Strong understanding of perioperative nursing standards
• Experience with hemostasis techniques, suturing, retracting, and safe tissue handling
• Effective communication, teamwork, and decision-making skills in high-stakes environments

Skills & Competencies:

• Surgical first assisting (retracting, suturing, hemostasis, tissue handling)
• Operating room workflow and surgical schedule coordination
• Legal, ethical, and regulatory documentation practices
• AORN, DPH, OSHA, Joint Commission standards compliance
• Proficiency in knot-tying and use of surgical instruments
• High-level team collaboration and adaptability
• Patient advocacy and upholding autonomy, dignity, and confidentiality

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Deliver nursing care aligned with hospital policy, MA state regulations, and ANA standards.
2. Act as a role model and uphold compliance with regulatory and safety standards.
3. Promote team collaboration and uphold hospital values.
4. Maintain professional and courteous interactions with patients, families, and staff.
5. Assist co-workers to ensure efficient patient flow in Perioperative Services.
6. Advocate for patient rights and provide care preserving dignity and confidentiality.
7. Understand legal implications of documentation and charting.
8. Prioritize patient care and respond effectively during emergencies.
9. Engage in unit-level quality improvement processes.
10. Coordinate with the Clinical Coordinator on the operative schedule.
11. Use surgical instruments safely and correctly.
12. Apply tissue handling and dissection techniques based on clinical assessment.
13. Use appropriate retraction methods to optimize surgical site exposure.
14. Demonstrate proficiency in knot-tying and appropriate suture selection.
