Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a high-acuity Emergency Department position at a Level II Trauma Center, requiring strong ER skills and multiple certifications.

Responsibilities

• Work in the Emergency Department of a Level II Trauma Center
• Care for a diverse patient population from pediatrics to geriatrics, including trauma, medical, and psychiatric cases
• Handles high-acuity cases such as GSW, sepsis, COVID, STEMI, stroke, DKA, mental health, and respiratory emergencies
• Unit has 60 beds, including inpatient holding, psych rooms, and hall spaces, averaging 140-150 patients per day
• Patient ratios are typically 1:4, flexing to 1:5 with low acuity patients
• Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and central/bedside telemetry monitoring
• 12-hour night shifts with a rotating weekend schedule every other weekend
• No floating required for the assignment
• No on-call responsibilities
• Holiday coverage required for 3 of 5 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day)
• Support provided by ER techs, charge nurse, resource/float nurse, respiratory therapist, educator, security, house supervisor, and pharmacy, all available 24/7
• Orientation includes NEO (badge, Epic training if needed) followed by 3-4 shifts with a preceptor
• Team-oriented, fast-paced, and traveler-friendly work environment
• Scrub color is flexible as long as attire is professional
• Visible tattoos must not be offensive and piercings should be modest (studs only)
• Free parking is available in designated areas
• Up to 5 days of time off may be approved during contract

Requirements

• Active RN license
• Minimum one year of strong Emergency Department experience
• Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC, NIHSS, CPI/MOAB certifications required
• Completion and passing of a Traveler Telemetry Competency Exam prior to start
• Proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation, IV skills, ED medication administration, procedural sedation, and blood administration
• Epic EMR experience preferred
• Must not be a first-time traveler
