Job Description

American Traveler seeks an experienced RN for an Emergency Department position in Alaska requiring strong emergency care skills and a current AK RN license.

Responsibilities

• Position is in the Emergency Department with a 14-bed unit
• Patient population spans all ages with a variety of emergency and critical care cases
• Utilizes BBraun IV pumps, Glide scopes, Sonosite, Level I, Lucas II, and Medtronic Life Pak 20 Defibrillator/Monitor
• Employs EMR systems including Optum Pulsecheck or Picis and Meditech, with Pyxis for medication and supplies
• 12-hour night shifts with rotation of shifts, including weekends
• Nurse to patient ratio is variable, with 3 nurses staffed around the clock and a 4th nurse for peak times
• No on-call or floating required
• Responsibilities include comprehensive assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care in the ED
• Initial competency assessment and department-specific orientation provided
• Works collaboratively within a supportive, team-based environment
• Dress code is scrubs

Requirements

• Active Alaska RN license
• Current certifications: ACLS, TNCC, ENPC, and PALS
• Minimum of 2 years ER or critical care nursing experience required
• Competence in rapid response, code blue, EMTALA, 12-lead EKG interpretation, and NIH Stroke Scale
• Experience managing neurological, respiratory, cardiac, and diabetic emergencies
• Skilled in blood product administration, laboratory value interpretation, and use of medical/behavioral restraints
