Job Description: Registered Nurse - Emergency Room (ER)

Location: Greensboro, NC 27401
Job Duration: 13 weeks
Shift: Night, 3x12-hour shifts (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
Schedule Type: Self-scheduling
Weekend Coverage: Every third weekend (2 weekend shifts or 4 weekend days per 6 weeks)

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse (RN) will provide high-quality nursing care in the Emergency Department (ED) at a Level II Trauma Center. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2 years’ experience in Emergency Nursing, with preference for charge nurse and trauma experience. This role requires proficiency with Epic charting and the ability to work independently during night shifts in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver patient-centered care in the Emergency Department with patient ratios ranging from 1:4 to 1:5, depending on staffing and patient volume.
• Manage complex emergency cases including trauma, stroke, cardiac emergencies, and pediatric injuries.
• Provide IV therapy, phlebotomy, arterial line management, and blood product administration.
• Administer medications including continuous IV sedation, vasopressors, and procedural sedation.
• Monitor and interpret vital signs, cardiac rhythms, ABGs, and neurological assessments.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including respiratory therapy, radiology, pharmacy, and social services.
• Maintain compliance with hospital policies, including infection control and isolation precautions.
• Participate in ongoing education and competency testing, including a mandatory EKG pass/fail exam.
• Adhere to strict attendance policies including zero tolerance for tardiness and unexcused absences.

Qualifications:

• Current Registered Nurse license with at least 2 years of Emergency Department experience required.
• Previous Charge Nurse experience preferred.
• Trauma Level II experience preferred.
• Epic electronic medical record system experience required.
• Certifications Required: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS.
• Preferred Certifications: CPI, PALS, TNCC.
• Ability to interpret and manage dysrhythmias and trauma care.
• Strong communication and triage skills.
• Willingness to float to any Cone Health campus as needed.
• Must pass a background check with no open cases.
• COVID-19 and flu vaccinations required unless medically or religiously exempt.
