Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position requiring a NY license and Epic proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Work in a hospital Med/Surg Telemetry unit
• Typical patient diagnoses include spinal stenosis, peripheral vascular disease, diabetic ulcers, lung carcinoma, and pleural effusions
• Day and evening nurse-to-patient ratios are 5:1, nights are 6-7:1, with potential stretch ratios up to 6-7:1 for day/evening and 9-10:1 for nights
• PCTs support with vital signs, blood glucose checks, EKGs, and daily living activities
• In-house phlebotomy handles lab draws; nursing staff manage PICC and central lines
• Expected to work every other weekend
• Night shift scheduled as 3x12 hour shifts (19:00–07:00)
• Floating to other Med/Surg units within scope is required
• Epic is used for charting and experience is required
• Responsibilities include managing patients with a variety of complex medical conditions and providing telemetry monitoring
• Must be comfortable implementing isolation precautions and managing oxygen delivery devices
• Collaborate with PCTs, phlebotomy, and rapid response teams
• Up to one week of requested time off allowed per contract
• Must wear any combination of navy and white scrubs
• Pre-start online modules required, with some compensated time
• Three approved call-off shifts allowed per 13-week contract
• First-time travelers are welcome if Epic experience is met

Requirements

• Active NY RN license in hand at time of application
• Minimum of 1 year of RN experience in Med/Surg Telemetry
• Current BLS certification required
• Epic EMR experience required; first-time US travelers must have previous Epic experience
• Proficiency in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, use of rapid response teams, peripheral line care, and non-invasive airway management
• Previous employees eligible after a 1-year break in service
• Candidates must live at least 75 miles from the facility
