Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Level 1 Trauma Emergency Department position requiring recent ER and trauma experience, valid AZ or compact RN license, and multiple certifications.

Responsibilities

• Work in a 60-bed Level 1 Trauma Emergency Room within an acute care setting
• Patient population includes trauma, motor vehicle accidents, gunshot wounds, stroke, cardiac events, high-risk obstetrics, psychiatric holds, pediatric (11%), and other emergent cases
• Nurse-to-patient ratios are typically 1:3-4
• Utilizes Cerner EMR and GE Lifepacks monitors
• Ventilator equipment includes Puritan Benette 840, Dreager, Vision Bipap, and V60s
• Required to float between nearby ER facilities (within 7 miles/15 minutes)
• Multiple 12-hour shifts available, including day, mid, and night shifts with varying start times
• Required to work a minimum of 4 weekend shifts per schedule and 2 of 3 major holidays per holiday season
• Floor-specific orientation is provided (2-3 days)
• Duties include emergency patient triage, care for high acuity trauma and medical cases, and rapid response in emergent situations
• Collaboration with a team including charge nurses, unit secretaries, paramedics, nurse aides, hospitalists, intensivists, respiratory therapists, and pharmacists
• Lab draws conducted except for central line access
• Must comply with navy scrub color requirement
• Pass/fail status on simulation and sterile technique tests determines continued eligibility for assignment
• High-volume ER environment with approximately 80,000 visits per year
• First-time travelers will be considered

Requirements

• Active AZ or compact RN license required at the time of consideration
• Minimum 2 years of recent ER/Trauma Level 1 nursing experience within the past year
• Current ACLS, BLS, TNCC (or ATCN), and PALS (or ENPC) certifications are required
• Competency with moderate conscious sedation and telemonitoring equipment
• Successful completion of dysrhythmia exam within 48 hours of offer, maximum two attempts
• Pass/fail simulation lab and sterile technique testing on day 1 of orientation
• Must provide two professional references (one supervisor from last 12 months, one peer or supervisor from the last 3 years)
• Copy of driver’s license required for consideration
• Cannot have been employed full-time, part-time, or PRN at a CommonSpirit facility (including CHI/Dignity) within the past year
• Must live more than 50 miles from the facility
