Job Summary:
The Registered Nurse in the Emergency Psychiatric Services department provides direct and indirect patient care through the nursing process. The RN is responsible for developing and updating individualized, interdisciplinary plans of care, evaluating patient outcomes, and identifying available patient resources. The department serves patients aged 5 and up with psychiatric illnesses, some of whom may also require medical care. Common psychiatric diagnoses include major depression, bipolar disorder, adjustment disorder, and psychotic disorders. Patients requiring detoxification may also be part of the patient population.

Responsibilities:

• Provide direct and indirect patient care using the nursing process
• Develop and periodically update individualized, interdisciplinary plans of care
• Evaluate patient outcomes and coordinate with available resources
• Collaborate with the care team to ensure high-quality patient care
• Provide care for psychiatric and, as needed, medical needs of patients

Requirements:

Education & Licensure:

• 2-Year Associate’s Degree in Nursing required
• Valid RN license in the State of Maine
• BLS Certification required
• CPI training current prior to start

Experience:

• Minimum 1 year of previous mental health nursing experience required

Other Skills:

• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
• Strong team player
• Ability to manage stress and make decisions under pressure
• Flexibility to provide coverage 24/7

Important Notes:

• Permanent address must be more than 50 miles from the hospital; otherwise, pay rate will be $10/hour lower
• Candidates must not be previous employees of St. Mary’s
• Candidates with licensure hits will not be considered
