About The Position
Job Title: Echo Technologist Profession: Diagnostic Imaging Specialty: Echo Technologist Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 4x8-Hour Hours per Shift: 8 Experience: Minimum of 3 years License: Credentialed as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) Certifications: Current certification in BLS Must-Have: High School Diploma or Equivalent Formal training from an accredited medical sonography program specializing in cardiac sonography. Description: Introduce yourself and identify patients using two forms of ID. Explain the testing procedure. Review the medical history and direct the exam based on that information. Perform cardiac diagnostic imaging procedures to study the anatomy and hemodynamics of the heart, including two-dimensional (2D) and Doppler modalities. Perform online calculations to quantify cardiac parameters of function and hemodynamics. Be knowledgeable regarding anatomy, hemodynamics, and physiology associated with healthy and diseased hearts. Understand cardiac arrhythmias and cardiac medications. Report abnormal findings to cardiologists. Take steps to safeguard patients when abnormal results are identified. Review results of testing with cardiologists. Discuss cases and techniques used to obtain optimal images. Assist cardiologists during transesophageal echocardiograms. Prioritize requests based on the nature of the request and the condition or situation of the patients. Coordinate and communicate with other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive patient service and care. Work collaboratively to complete assignments with departmental and healthcare team members. Delegate responsibilities to other healthcare professionals when appropriate. Be capable of covering some of the lead echo technician's responsibilities in their absence. Work with other echo technicians and EKG technicians to assist them with workflow. Demonstrate the ability to work independently. Ensure reports are directed to appropriate cardiologists for interpretation. Monitor report turnaround times for cardiologists. Be familiar with relevant guidelines. Be familiar with the echo PACS system. Contact technical support when necessary to troubleshoot problems. Operate stress testing equipment when necessary. Perform 12 lead electrocardiograms when necessary. Recognize and report malfunctioning equipment. Be responsible for cleaning and disinfecting equipment, including probes. Order supplies when needed and appropriate. Perform other duties as assigned. This document describes the major duties and responsibilities for this job.
