Job Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Med/Surg RN with an active IL license and BLS certification for a night shift assignment in an acute care setting.

Responsibilities

• Work in an acute care medical-surgical unit with a 29-bed capacity and an average census of 22-26 patients
• Nurse-to-patient ratios are 4-5:1 during the day and 5-6:1 at night
• Patient population includes cases such as GI bleeds, sepsis, CHF, cellulitis, osteomyelitis, elderly falls, DVT, pulmonary embolism, and others
• RNs are required to titrate heparin drips and perform IV starts
• Uses EPIC EMR system
• 12-hour night shifts (7p-7a) with every other weekend requirement
• Holiday coverage is rotated among staff
• Travel RNs are required to float to other med/surg units as needed, but not to ICU or chemo units
• No on-call or standby required
• Charge RN coverage is available 24/7 and typically does not take a patient assignment
• 24-hour patient care tech support and crisis RN coverage provided
• Orientation consists of 2 shifts before assuming independent patient care
• RNs are responsible for IV starts, with phlebotomy team support available for blood draws
• Any color scrubs may be worn except pediatric prints; scrubs are not provided
• First time travelers are accepted for this position
• Local rates apply to candidates with a permanent address within 50 miles

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
• Current BLS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of recent Med/Surg RN experience required
• Must be able to titrate heparin drips and perform IV starts
• Experience using EPIC EMR is preferred
