Technical Writer/Editor

BAE Systems is seeking a Technical Writer/Editor to support our work as a prime contractor on a high-profile U.S. Navy weapon system. A strong attention to detail, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work well independently and with others are important traits we expect the successful candidate to possess and demonstrate.

This position is responsible for performing a variety of tasks related to producing and editing technical documents and technical procedure manuals such as: Strategic Systems Program Instructions (SSPINSTs), Ordnance Documents (ODs), and related documentation to include but not limited to, governing documents, correspondence, document technical specifications and work instruction. A limited amount of travel to off-site locations could be required.

Our organization has supported the U.S. Navy's Strategic Systems Programs (SSP) continually since the program's inception in the 1950s. SSP developed the first sea-based, underwater-launched Strategic Weapon System (SWS), a defense system that is truly critical to our national security. For more than six decades, SSP has maintained and upgraded this weapon system and we have been there every step of the way. The sea-based SWS is the ultimate stealthy weapon system and is the first leg of the U.S. nuclear triad. With over 70% of our nation's nuclear arsenal its importance to maintaining world peace cannot be overstated. The development of Columbia, the most advanced nuclear-powered, nuclear-armed submarine ever designed, as well the next D5LE2 weapon system is under way and will begin to be rolled out over the next decade. The Navy projects this system to be operational through 2084, meaning the program will have a total life span of more than 120 years. This is a unique program and BAE Systems employees on this program understand they are part of an important legacy.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

• Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or Computer Science degree and 2 years professional work experience or equivalent relevant experience.
• Experience writing and editing formal publications and technical documents for organization, grammar, usage, and clarity
• Translate technical concepts into clear, concise language tailored to technical and non-technical stakeholders, including customer leadership.
• Advanced proficiency using Adobe Acrobat, and Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
• Advanced editing skills: grammar and punctuation, writing standards and best practices, plain language, style guides, version control
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as outstanding strong proofreading and formatting skills
• Create and maintain documentation libraries and repositories (e.g., SharePoint, Confluence, ServiceNow Knowledge Base) to ensure version control and accessibility.
• Exceptional attention to detail and an eye for formatting inconsistencies
• A proven ability to learn and quickly grasp complex technical concepts to convey them clearly and accurately
• Ability to manage conflicting tasking with an eye for prioritization

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

• Certifications such as CPTC (Certified Professional Technical Communicator), PMP, or Agile certifications.
• Knowledgeable of or has Continued Process Improvement (CPI) experience
• Familiarity with Controlled Unclassified Information (e.g., requirements, portion markings, and creation)
• Knowledge of or has configuration management and/or quality experience
• Experience creating graphics for use in printed or electronic publications
• Familiarity with Content Management Systems (CMS) tools such as SharePoint or Confluence
• Ability to apply knowledge of systems engineering concepts, policies, and procedures is a plus

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $66084 - $112343
