AWS Systems Development Engineers are passionate about both development and operations with a strong desire to learn and be curious about Amazon's services and process. This is a true DevOps role; you will be both allowed and expected to follow problems all the way to the end and work on implementing real solutions and not just quick fixes. A candidate who wants to go deep and understand how these large systems work will get a chance to excel in this position. The candidate will be expected to code in either Python, Java, Ruby, or TypeScript.
Amazon Web Service is building some of the largest distributed systems in the world. Amazon's database offerings like Aurora, DynamoDB, ElastiCache, EMR, RDS, and Redshift are massively scaled services that make up a critical piece of the internet today. This is an excellent opportunity to join Amazon's world class Database and Analytics focused technical team in Seattle, WA, working with some of the best and brightest engineers and technical managers while also developing your skills and furthering your career within one of the most innovative and progressive technology companies anywhere.
This position requires that the candidate selected must currently possess and maintain an active TS/SCI security clearance with polygraph. The position further requires the candidate to opt into a commensurate clearance for each government agency for which they perform AWS work.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 2+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- 3+ years professional software development experience or one of the following related disciplines: Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), Systems Engineering, Systems Administration, DevOps, Security Administration, or Network Administration
- 3+ years programming or scripting language experience (Java, Python, Go, Ruby) in Linux or similar UNIX distribution with a good working knowledge of TCP/IP networking, architecture, and core technologies such as Load Balancing, DNS, DHCP, HTTP, and Routing
- Current, active US Government Security Clearance of TS/SCI with Polygraph

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience utilizing AWS cloud solutions in a DevOps environment
- Experience with security best practices in tool development and access controls
- Experience managing servers in large-scale, geographically diverse environments
- Excellent troubleshooting skills

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $116,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $201,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
