Responsibilities:

• Teach and mentor new employees and students in both technical skills and surgical theory.
• Prepare the OR by setting up instruments, equipment, sterile supplies, and ensuring everything functions properly.
• Assist in patient prep, including positioning, draping, and maintaining aseptic technique throughout procedures.
• During surgery, efficiently pass instruments, handle retractors, cut sutures, manage sponges and counts, and ensure a safe, sterile field.
• Support surgeons across a variety of specialties with strong technical knowledge and attention to detail.
• Maintain and oversee specialty instruments, lasers, and supplies, coordinate repairs, orders, and equipment maintenance.
• Serve as a Lead Techsupervising daily workflow, resolving issues, and guiding surgical team members.
• Manage specimens, apply dressings, and assist in transferring patients to recovery post-surgery.
• Promote safety, cost efficiency, and continuous improvement in OR operations.
• Collaborate effectively with surgeons, clinicians, and cross-functional teams to ensure exceptional patient care.
• Serve as a trusted resource and preceptor for colleagues, supporting ongoing learning and professional development.

• Completion of a formal surgical technician program offered by a community or junior college, vocational school, university, hospital or the military.
• 3 years of current Operating Room experience required.
• Advanced knowledge of at least 2 surgical specialists with 1 year experience in selected specialty desired.
• Access to medications is limited to the distribution of the medication to the nurse. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
• Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
• Certified Surgical Technologists (CST) OR Tech in Surgery-Certified (TSC)
• Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
• Act 33 with renewal
• Act 34 with renewal
• Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
