Surgical Technologist I, Operating Room Team

Join a dynamic team in a busy operating room environment with 5 ORs specializing in Burn, Oral Maxillofacial Surgery, Adult Dental, Pulmonary, and GI service lines.

This full-time position operates on a block schedule from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm, 4 days a week (1-2 late shifts may be required). Enjoy a work-life balance with no nights, weekends, or holidays recognized by UNC.

We are seeking experienced Surgical Technologists with a minimum of 1 year of experience to join our team. This position qualifies for an exciting incentive program, offering up to $10,000 commitment incentives and relocation assistance, as well as our employee referral program.

As a Surgical Technologist I, you will work under the supervision of a surgeon and registered nurse, ensuring the safe and effective conduct of surgical procedures. Your expertise in sterile and aseptic techniques will help us provide optimal care to our patients.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Perform technical duties in all operating room specialty areas, adhering to accepted practices.
2. Maintain, assemble, handle, and sterilize specialty instrumentation properly.
3. Follow aseptic techniques, proactively identifying and correcting any contamination issues.
4. Conduct surgical counts and report any discrepancies following established protocols.
5. Label drugs and solutions accurately, monitoring their usage.
6. Assist with identification and handling of surgical specimens.
7. Prepare and organize instruments, supplies, and surgical drapes for optimal access during procedures.
8. Support the surgeon by demonstrating knowledge of patient anatomy relevant to surgical procedures.
9. Participate in case planning and instrument selection.
10. Adapt scrubbing procedures as necessary, responding effectively to surgical emergencies.
11. Receive and store supplies as directed by Surgical Services leadership.
12. Report defective instruments and assist with restocking operating room supplies.
13. Work closely with the registered nurse during intraoperative phases.
14. Operate complex equipment and identify troubleshooting needs.
15. Mentor and precept Surgical Technician Trainees as needed.

Additional Information:

Education Requirements: Formal education is not mandatory if other qualifications are met.

Licensure/Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification required. Candidates must be graduates of an accredited Surgical Technology or Nursing Program, or have completed a Military Training Program in Surgical Technology. Substitutions for formal education may apply for individuals with 3+ years of prior surgical tech experience.

Professional Experience: 0-3 years of relevant experience.

Skills: Strong communication and customer service skills, along with excellent organizational capabilities.
