Located in Hillcrest, the McGrath Outpatient Pavilion is a state-of-the-art, 250,000-square-foot medical facility designed to meet the growing healthcare needs of our region. Spanning six floors, this advanced facility is home to key clinical programs and offers specialized diagnostic, treatment, and surgical services. With a strong emphasis on cancer care, we are committed to delivering world-class medical services in a patient-centered environment.

Description

Under the direction of the surgical charge nurse, performs less complicated surgical technician duties utilizing specialized knowledge acquired through formal training. This position provides surgical technician support to surgical areas within UC San Diego Health. Duties include ordering, stocking, and verification of specialty equipment and supplies, tracking inventory (type, quantity, and expiration dates), contacting surgeons concerning equipment and supply needs for complex cases, communicating with related buyers and vendors and other staff concerning service, contacting surgical supply companies about malfunctioning or broken equipment, and providing continuing education in-service to staff. Manages and processes hazardous materials, disposable and non-disposable equipment and instruments per protocol and regulations. Performs other related tasks as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

• Completion of accredited Surgical Technologist training/institution or equivalent.
• BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to obtain BART within six months of hire date.
• Prior Surgical Technician experience.
• Demonstrated knowledge of surgical instrumentation used in various surgical procedures.
• Knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.
• Excellent and effective communication skills, patient experience, and positive attitude.

Preferred Qualifications

• One year of Surgical Technician experience in vascular & endovascular surgery cases.
• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Certificate of completion of a Medical Assistant training program.
• Lean Six Sigma and/or project management experience.
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST).

Special Conditions

• Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
• Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
• Must be able to work overtime as required.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $69,447 - $86,381 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $33.26 - $41.37

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (where applicable).
