Surgery - Cardiovascular Physician

Locums - Cardiothoracic Surgeon - Fort Myers, Florida Start Date: 9/22/25Duration: 2/27/26Type: Inpatient & Surgical - Hospital-based

Position Overview

• Schedule: Monday-Friday, 6:45 AM - 5:00 PM

• Setting: Inpatient consults, inpatient surgical cases, pre & postoperative rounding (no clinic)

• Rounding: All rounding completed with an APP; APP creates consult/progress notes; surgeon must add note and co-sign

• Weekend Coverage:

  • Rounds on all patients with a PA

  • Covers emergent OR cases only

  • Sees all new consults

  • Likely required 1 weekend per month

• Night Call Process:

  • Weekday call: 4:30 PM - 7:00 AM (shared equitably across surgeons, typically M-Th)

  • Weekend call: Friday 4:30 PM - Monday 7:00 AM (covered by weekend surgeon)

  • First Call: Surgical PA for floor patients

  • CVICU: CTS APP in-unit most nights; will escalate to surgeon if needed

  • ER: Calls surgeon directly if needed

Clinical Expectations

• Full cardiothoracic surgical coverage (consults, OR, rounding, call)

• Support Staff: PAs and APPs for rounding and first-call coverage

Requirements

• Current CV - must be up to date, list all employment with no gaps

• NPDB - within the last 3 months, must be clean (no hits)

• Active Florida License - Required

• Board Certified or Eligible in Cardiothoracic Surgery - Required (Letter of eligibility acceptable)

• Primary Source Case Logs - Required, only past 12 months accepted (HIPAA compliant/de-identified)
