Lab Supervisor

This position will work over our Microbiology Lab!

Responsibilities:

• Investigate and develop new techniques and instrumentation.
• Coach and develop staff and initiate corrective actions via Human Resources as necessary.
• Maintain up to date policies and procedures in accordance with regulatory guidelines (CAP, Joint Commission, etc).
• Complete all projects assigned by the Laboratory Director, or Manager in a timely fashion.
• Develop annual capital and operating budgets and manage all budgets in accordance with established financial guidelines.
• Monitor and approve payroll.
• Receive and investigate all complaints concerning the laboratories and its personnel and take action to resolve concerns when necessary.
• Supervise technical staff, ensure adequate training, conduct competency assessments, and complete annual performance appraisals on time.
• Perform duties of a Medical Technologist as required.
• Provide direction to the technical and clerical staff to maintain optimal workflow and productivity.

Preferred Qualifications: We are looking for a candidate with Microbiology experience! Leadership experience is strongly preferred.

Schedule: Monday-Friday, daylight hours. Hours may vary based on the department needs.

Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university with a major in biological, chemical, physical or clinical laboratory science, OR a successfully completed HEW (HHS) proficiency examination, and 4 years Clinical Laboratory experience.

Bachelor's degrees in a non-science will be considered only if candidate meets general supervisor qualifications per CLIA 88 regulatory standards.

Ability to engage, develop and encourage employees to fulfill their full potential.

Ability to supervise personnel in situations of high stress levels and be able to reconcile the objectives of management and the medical staff to produce optimal departmental outcomes. Strong analytical and critical thinking.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

For NY locations/laboratories holding NY state licensures ONLY: Six years clinical lab experience required.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

New York license required for NY locations.

Six years clinical lab experience required for NY locations.

Am Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification preferred.

BLS required within 30 days of hire/transfer.
