Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Staff Nurse for the department of Pediatrics at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
The Staff Nurse (Pediatric Populations), in collaboration with physicians, nursing staff, and other members of the healthcare team, oversees, coordinates, and provides focused, episodic care to Robert Wood Johnson Medical Group patients. The position is a shared resource and will provide 50% FTE for Adolescent Medicine and 50%FTE for Pediatric Nephrology. Coverage percentages can change at the discretion of the Chair's office. This care encompasses health promotion, health maintenance, or management of health-related problems that is delivered in face-toface or telephone encounters. Additional responsibilities include delegation, direction, and supervision of the activities of Robert Wood Johnson Medical Group LPNs and non-nursing clinical staff to meet the needs of Robert Wood Johnson Medical Group patients.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:

• Explains procedures and treatments to patient to gain cooperation, understanding and allay apprehension.
• Responsible for assisting with patients who are medically complex and/or have sensitive medical or social issues.
• Reviews plan of care, meds/tests with physicians as needed.
• Contacts pharmacy for prescription renewals for patients.
• Responsible for setting up and downloading 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitors.
• Documents all patient correspondence and correspondence with other pertinent health care providers.
• Administers prescribed medications, teaches patients how to administer injectable medication.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience

• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with a license to practice in the State of New Jersey as a Registered Nurse (RN required).
• Must have at least two (2) years of pediatric experience, preferably in Pediatric Acute Care.

Certifications/Licenses

• Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of New Jersey.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• The ability to function in a team environment is required. Basic word processing and computer skills are required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Pediatric Nephrology and/or Adolescent Medicine experience is preferred.

• Physical Demands: Position requires standing to 2/3 of the time, walking to 2/3 of the time, requires sitting to 2/3 of the time, use of the hands to finger, handle or feel to 2/3 of the time, reach with hands and arms over 1/3 of the time, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl under 1/3 of the time, talk or hear over 2/3 of the time. Position requires lifting 1/3 of the time up to 10 pounds, and under 1/3 of the time up to 25 pounds.
• Work Environment: Moderate noise environment with some exposure (less than 1/3 of the time) to blood borne pathogens requiring the use of personal protective equipment; some potential exposure (less than 1/3 of the time) to hazardous waste.
