JOB SUMMARY
The Anna Shaw Children's Institute (ASCI) is a developmental behavioral practice and an affiliate of Hamilton Healthcare System, Inc. (HHCS). ASCI was created as a responsive entity to meet the medical and psychiatric pediatric care services needs for children with developmental delays and/or the behavioral issues related to those delays within Dalton, Georgia and the surrounding region. Additionally, the ASCI will provide Physical, Occupational, Speech and Feeding therapy services to the same pediatric population.
Primary responsibilities for the Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) include oral motor, feeding and speech skill development for infants, children and adolescents at the ASCI. The SLP provides diagnostic evaluations and intervention programs for children with speech, language, cognitive, voice, resonance, fluency, learning, feeding/swallowing or hearing disorders related to a variety of medical and/or developmental concerns; not limited to genetic concerns/structural anomalies, hearing loss, acquired injuries, and acute illnesses. The SLP will administer speech language evaluations and assessments for infants, children and adolescents at the ASCI, to determine a child's level of functioning relative to chronological and developmental age in areas of speech, language, feeding and oral motor function and skills. The SLP will interpret the evaluation results to identify patients functional capabilities and deficits: establish long and short term goals; and develop an individualized therapy plan incorporating the patient and the family. The ultimate goals will be a fulfilled and satisfied state in life for the child through the use of purposeful activity or interventions designed to achieve functional outcomes which promote health, prevent injury or disability and which develop, improve, sustain or restore the highest possible level of independence.
Speech Language Services offered include but are not limited to outpatient, outreach and potentially telehealth programs. Clinician possesses the expertise necessary to analyze and interpret objective and subjective information obtained through the assessment and treatment process. The clinician will collaborate with the family on establishing goals and objectives of therapy. The clinician will collaborate with the family, physicians, schools (and other educational institutions), and other providers to ensure the continuum of care for the child and optimal clinical services. All interactions are non-judgmental and based on mutual respect. Clinician demonstrates leadership and participates in systematic, planned professional development to improve the clinical, educational, research, and advocacy goals of the ASCI.
Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and competency skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development and assess data reflective of the patient's current status in relation to their developmental and/or chronological age specific needs. Responsible for the evaluation, treatment planning, treatment implementation, consistent with contemporary, evidence-based practice in speech-language pathology and all necessary documentation of all assigned patients at the ASCI. Be prepared to utilize augmentative/alternative communication devices.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduate of an accredited college of Speech Therapy, completion of a Master's Degree in Speech/Language Pathology. Completion of Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC).
Licensure: Current licensure in Speech-Language Pathology from the Georgia Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology or eligible for license. Certificate of clinical competence (CCC) in speech/language pathology as granted by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) membership preferred.
Certifications: Current BLS/CPR Certification or obtains within 30 days of start date.
Experience: Background in the areas of child development, speech/language development, audiology, speech disorders (functional and organic), language impairments, neuropathology, feeding/swallowing, and anatomy and physiology. Two years of pediatric speech-language pathology experience preferred. Experience with feeding skills preferred.
Skills: Ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of the patient's needs, and being appropriate for age group of patient served. Vast knowledge of therapy skills. Must have a high level of interpersonal skills in order to communicate verbally and in writing/electronically with patients, physicians, family, co-workers and others. Must function well in team environment.
