Job Description Summary

GE Aerospace is leading the way in introducing Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMCs) into commercial and military aerospace and applications. As a Senior Research Scientist in the Composites organization at the GE Aerospace Research Center, you will conduct and lead research on developing advanced materials and processes for a broad range of current and future GE Aerospace products. A primary area of focus includes ceramic matrix composites for advanced applications in extreme environments.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

You will:

  Lead and conduct basic and applied research in processes and technology for advanced composites of interest to GE Aerospace and external funding agencies

  Develop novel advanced composites for various GE Aerospace products including but not limited to Civil and Military products and transition these technologies to GE Aerospace

  Develop manufacturing processes for new and existing advanced ceramic matrix composites in a lab and production environment

  n

• n

  Identify technology trends in advanced composites and develop technical roadmaps to address them

  n
n
• n

  Collaborate with GE Aerospace's internal product departments, global R&D sites, external and internal material developers, strategic suppliers, and universities

  n

• n

  Characterize and identify degradation modes and approaches for improving the lifetime of advanced materials in extreme environments

  n
n
• n

  Mentor less experience researchers

  n
n
• n

  Prepare research proposals for external funding

  n
n
• n

  Invent and patent when appropriate

  n
n
• n

  Deliver effective presentations, reports, publications to GE Aerospace Research, GE Aerospace, government agencies, and professional societies when appropriate

Required Qualifications

n
• n

  PhD in Materials Science and Engineering or related discipline with a minimum of 7 years' experience or Master's degree in Materials Science and Engineering or related discipline with a minimum of 10 years of experience.

  Deep expertise in material and process development for ceramic matrix composites, polymer matrix composites, or other advance material systems with complex microstructure requirements at multiple length scales

  n

• n

  Demonstrated expertise of property-process-microstructure relationships for advanced structural material systems

  n

• n

  Demonstrated excellence in research through peer reviewed publications and patents

  n
n
• n

  Demonstrated ability to solve complex technical problems

  n
n
• n

  Excellent oral and written communication skills

  n
n
• n

  U.S. citizenship is required

  n

• n

  Must be willing to work out of an office located in Niskayuna, NY.

  Very good understanding of thermodynamics, degradation kinetics, phase stability and diffusion in high temperature material systems

  Experience leading cross-disciplinary research teams

  Experience developing long-term strategic roadmaps for advanced technologies

  Experience transferring technology from the laboratory to commercialization

  Experience working on government contracts and preparing proposals

  Experience with statistical analysis, data analytics, and statistical process control

The base pay range for this position is 100,000 - 205,000 USD Annually. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus based on a percentage of your base salary. This posting is expected to close on May 01, 2025
