Senior Principal Electrical Engineer - Defense Systems

The Defense Systems group at Leidos currently has an exciting opening for a Senior Principal Electrical Engineer . Join our dynamic team in St. Petersburg, FL, where we are dedicated to innovating the design, development, modeling and simulation, analysis, prototyping, and testing of advanced electronic systems. Our focus is on embedded communication systems, Software Defined Radios, and Phased Array Antenna Systems serving various DOD and commercial customers.

Primary Responsibilities

• Lead technical planning, system hardware-software-network design, development, integration, verification and validation, and fielding.

• Evaluate alternatives based on cost, risk, supportability, and provide comprehensive analyses for total systems.

• Manage and ensure traceability for system requirements across various platforms.

• Conduct analysis across requirements, functional timelines, trade studies, allocations, interface definitions, technical management, integration, system testing, and quality assurance.

• Guide a multi-disciplined team of engineers to identify and implement system solutions, ensuring compliance with system-level requirements.

• Create detailed technical documentation, including system architectures, test plans and procedures, as well as test reports. Provide recommendations on technologies and industry trends.

• Contribute to future opportunities by creating white papers, responding to RFIs, and developing technical proposal volumes.

Basic Qualifications

• Must be a US citizen and able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.

• Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 15 years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree with 13 years of experience.

• In-depth experience in RF theory, power supply design, wireless/SIGINT technologies, microwave principles, and system/subsystem-level analysis methodologies.

• Strong understanding of the radio frequency spectrum and modern communication infrastructures, including signal structures, propagation, modulation types, data rates, and multiplexing/demultiplexing methods.

• Proven ability to lead multi-disciplined engineering teams and conduct technical design reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, and TIM) with a focus on customer satisfaction.

• Experience with hardware and software integration.

• Comprehensive knowledge of project management principles.

• Exceptional oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Active Security Clearance.

• Experience with advanced waveforms and antennas used in communication systems.

• System design experience with cross-disciplinary collaboration in electrical, electronics, mechanical, software, and computer engineering.

• Familiarity with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and system architecture.

• Experience in hardware design encompassing RF, digital, and analog systems, including printed wiring board layout, schematic design, and component functionalities.

• Understanding of design life cycles and environmental requirements.

• Familiarity with VHDL design and implementation.

• Experience with simulation tools such as MatLab, Python, and Labview.

• Proficient in using test equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers, and network analyzers.

Pay Range: Pay Range $126,100.00 - $227,950.00
