This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin's Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

As part of a hardworking team of spacecraft development engineers, you will contribute to the development of the Guidance, Navigation & Control system as GN&C Systems Engineer. You will contribute and coordinate technical baselines, engineering designs, and interfaces across multiple spacecraft and launch vehicles to enable mission architecture closure. You will engage with the vehicle level cross-disciplined engineering organization to ensure spacecraft design and as-built configurations of hardware and software meets the mission needs. You will steer the integrated GN&C subsystem hardware and software through the full lifecycle starting at preliminary system level definition, detailed subsystem design and performance analysis, vehicle assembly, verification, system validation, mission certification, and mission operations.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate technical requirements and spacecraft designs across programs within Blue Origin along with external customer
• Perform GN&C system trade studies and performance analyses in coordination with other spacecraft subsystems such as fluids and propulsion, communications, power, and mission operations
• Develop and maintain GN&C functional and performance requirements
• Develop and maintain safety products such as FTA and FMECA
• Coordinate and facilitate milestone reviews and release production artifacts
• Lead system and subsystem verification activities including analytical performance assessments and test activities in hardware environments
• Lead software and simulation development including facilitating code implementation within GN&C and close coordination with software organizations
• Develop automation to improve the productivity of the team resources and drive efficiency into the team operations

Minimum Qualifications

• B.S. degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering with 8+ years of demonstrated experience in GN&C
• Previous experience with individual technical disciplines of spacecraft navigation, orbital guidance, and spacecraft propulsive trajectory and attitude controls across the entire development and production lifecycle
• Strong fundamentals in rigid body dynamics, flight mechanics, and 1st principles physics-based mathematical models
• Experience with validation and verification approaches such as software unit testing, system simulation, hardware-in-the-loop testing or integrated subsystem testing
• Experience with 6 degree-of-freedom guidance, navigation, and control simulation and analysis of aerospace vehicles
• Experience in flow down of system requirements to the subsystem and component level
• Demonstrated experience in performing multi-disciplinary trade studies and requirements analyses
• Avionics hardware and software integration experience
• Highly organized team player with excellent technical written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of safety.

Preferred Qualifications

• M.S. or PhD in the subject disciplines
• Solid system engineering and configuration management skills
• Experience in multi-disciplinary design optimization
• Experience in developing software and tools in Matlab, Python, C/C++, or Rust
• Experience with collaboration tools such as Gitlab, Confluence, and Jira
• Experience NASA simulation tools and environments (Trick/JEOD)

Compensation Range for:

CO applicants is $139,979.00-$195,969.90;WA applicants is $152,235.00-$213,127.95
