Expected salary range of $114,300 to $127,000 depending on experience, along with a comprehensive benefits package that includes bonuses and 401(k) contributions.
LOCATION
This is a remote position, with the expectation of up to 60% travel to support projects in the Mid-Atlantic region. Candidates should reside within the territory to effectively facilitate client site visits and meet travel needs. Occasional travel to the Warrendale, PA office, and other Constellation locations will also be required for in-person meetings and collaboration as directed by leadership.
Our ideal candidate will be located in the Maryland / D.C. / Virginia area to accommodate regular travel requirements.
Primary Purpose of Position
The Senior Development Engineer plays a crucial role in the execution of Infrastructure Renewal and Building Upgrade & Improvement projects, focusing on energy efficiency and sustainability. This position, under the guidance of leadership, will assist in identifying and developing viable energy services and energy asset projects within the Commercial & Industrial (C&I) and Federal spaces. Projects may be proposed by the sales team or independently developed. Responsibilities include providing technical and financial analysis of energy conservation measures and supply options for ongoing projects. Moreover, assist in sales initiatives to attract new clients by building business relationships and offering technical insights throughout the sales and construction phases.
Primary Duties and Accountabilities
- Assess energy-saving potentials at customer facilities through comprehensive ASHRAE level I, II & III energy audits and draft detailed technical proposals showcasing potential energy conservation measures.
- Utilize technical knowledge to devise preliminary designs, cost estimates, and energy-saving solutions for client facilities.
- Lead engineering tasks for critical or complex projects needing multidisciplinary expertise. Design large-scale lighting and water conservation initiatives focusing on auditing, specifications, energy calculations, and quality control of third-party design submissions.
- Employ current energy modeling software to enhance building analyses and project strategies.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to confirm design intent, constructability, and cost-effectiveness of all project deliverables.
- Champion safety by encouraging compliance, addressing unsafe behaviors, and promoting a secure work environment.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline (e.g., electrical, mechanical, or related field).
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in consulting engineering, design-build, or energy services.
- Proven experience in developing intricate energy conservation projects within building construction and retrofit scenarios, showcasing knowledge of relevant systems and methods.
- Deep understanding of HVAC, electrical, building automation, and process-related systems in commercial, industrial, governmental, and healthcare settings.
- Experience in applying engineering theory and structured problem-solving techniques.
- Ability to analyze and interpret complex electrical and mechanical systems.
- Comprehensive knowledge of relevant construction standards and codes.
- Experience conducting project life cycle cost analyses.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with proficiency in report generation and technical writing.
- A valid driver's license is required.
- Must meet eligibility criteria for government facility access.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineering (PE) registration, Certified Energy Manager (CEM) certification, and/or LEED accreditation.
- Capability to perform load calculations and energy analyses utilizing industry-standard modeling software, including EnergyPlus, eQuest, Trane Trace 3D, alongside solar PV evaluation tools and design programs like AutoCAD.
- Experience in creating energy conservation programs for the Federal Government through Super ESPC and/or Area-wide contract vehicles, familiar with FEMP/IPMVP Measurement and Verification guidelines.
- Familiarity with renewable energy technologies such as solar PV, battery storage (BESS), data centers, and energy projects involving large-scale prime movers (e.g., combustion turbines, biomass, landfill gas facilities).
