Seafood Service Clerk
Provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service. Wraps, trims, stocks cases, and receives merchandise in the Seafood Department.
Core competencies include partnerships, growth mindset, results oriented, customer focused, and professionalism.
Accountable and reports to: District Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Manager of Perishables, Store Operations, and Health Wellness Home; Seafood Department Manager; Assistant Seafood Department Manager; Service Managers.

Primary duties and responsibilities include:
- Provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service.
- Smiles and greets customers in a friendly manner.
- Makes an effort to learn customers' names.
- Answers the telephone promptly.
- Works with co-workers as a team.
- Wraps, weighs, and labels products.
- Reviews the status and appearance of food for freshness.
- Finishes display details.
- Prepares and organizes seafood items.
- Understands and practices proper sanitation procedures.
- Replenishes and organizes coolers.
- Reports out-of-stock products.
- Removes trash in a timely manner.
- Maintains strict adherence to department and company guidelines.
- Adheres to company policies and individual store guidelines.
- Reports to work when scheduled.
Secondary duties and responsibilities include:
- Prepares some signs for the department.
- Orders replenishment merchandise as directed.
- Assists in other areas of the store as needed.
- Performs other job-related duties and special projects as required.
Knowledge, skills, abilities, and worker characteristics include:
- Commitment to the Hy-Vee Mission and a willingness to promote the values of the company.
- Ability to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or verbal instructions.
- Ability to do simple addition and subtraction.
- Ability to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated instructions.
Education and experience required:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Food Safety training.
- Six months previous related work experience.
Physical requirements include:
- Ability to see detail at near range with or without correction.
- Ability to exert up to 85 pounds of force occasionally.
- Ability to perform balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, handling, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
Working conditions include exposure to a cool environment and dampness, frequent noise, exposure to cleaning solvents, and possibility of electrical shock.
Equipment includes: knives, grinders, patty maker, slicer, pallet jack, tumbler, and wrapping system.
Contacts include dealing with customers on a daily basis and vendors/suppliers on an as needed basis.
