UPMC Western Maryland's Radiation Oncology Department Seeks Full Time RN
This role would be perfect for a compassionate and experienced RN, looking to take the next step in their career. Prior oncology experience is not required, and the selected candidate will have the opportunity to obtain specialty certifications in Radiation Oncology and Medical Oncology through ONS!

Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate accountability for ongoing professional development to enhance patient care and clinical practice.
- Actively participate in unit-based shared governance, goal setting, and change initiatives to improve care quality and the practice environment.
- Serve as a fully engaged member of the care team, responding collaboratively to team needs.
- Contribute to efforts that improve patient care and the professional practice environment.
- Adapt to change and demonstrate flexibility throughout transition processes.
- Apply the nursing process within the framework of Relationship Based Care to create a healing environment.
- Formulate daily goals and holistic care plans in partnership with patients.
- Identify and address clinical, social, safety, psychological, and spiritual issues during patient care.
- Communicate effectively with care providers to advocate for patient needs and recommend care improvements.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation that supports communication among caregivers.
- Align care practices with national professional standards and organizational goals to improve safety, quality, and satisfaction.
- Foster compassionate, healing relationships with patients, families, and colleagues.
- Apply adult learning principles in educating patients, families, students, and new staff.
- Provide clear and appropriate teaching to support patient transitions across care levels.
- Support the development of students and new staff; may serve as a preceptor.
- Promote open dialogue and continuous improvement by seeking feedback and refining practice.
- Participate in department-specific quality improvement initiatives.
- Identify and communicate opportunities for quality improvement to colleagues and management.
- Take personal responsibility for enhancing patient satisfaction and service quality.
- Utilize research and evidence-based practice to support clinical improvements.
- Discuss quality improvement opportunities during multidisciplinary rounds and influence care planning.
- Build and maintain productive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrate cultural awareness and promote healthy peer relationships.
- Model safe work hours, effective time management, and a healthy lifestyle.
- Communicate safety hazards to peers and management.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 6 months of relevant experience.
- BSN preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care and interaction for patients served by the assigned unit.
- Understanding of growth and development principles across the lifespan.
- Ability to assess and interpret patient data to identify age-specific needs and deliver appropriate care per departmental policies and procedures.
- Proven ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with:
- Executives
- Managers
- Physicians and non-physician providers
- Ancillary and support staff
- Other departments
- Patients and families
- Capacity to work productively and effectively in complex environments, managing multiple and changing priorities and specialized equipment.
- Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills related to patient care.
- Critical thinking skills to apply and lead others in the nursing process.
- Physical capabilities including:
- Mobility and visual manual dexterity
- Stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Registered Nurse (RN)
Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
