The RN First Assistant (RNFA) functions as the surgical first assistant under the direction and supervision of the surgeon during the intra-operative phase of surgery. This full-time position in Dale City offers a unique opportunity to support our mission at Mary Washington Healthcare while making a significant impact on patient care.

• Assist with procedural set up and patient preparedness for specific procedures.
• Support the surgeon in various closure techniques and hemostatic procedures.
• Establish and maintain a safe peri-operative environment, observing aseptic techniques.
• Participate in patient transport and room turnover to enhance service utilization.
• Function as a Registered Nurse and circulate cases as needed.
• Serve as an educator, mentor, and resource to patients and colleagues.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Graduation from a surgical first assistant program.
• Valid RN License from Virginia or a reciprocal compact state.
• Certified Perioperative Nurse (CNOR) certification.
• AHA BLS Provider CPR certification at hire.
• BSN preferred; RNs with an Associate's Degree must obtain their BSN within five years of hire.
• Certified Registered Nurse First Assistant (CRNFA) certification preferred.
