Overview
Research Coordinator Supervisor – Keck School of Medicine, Los Angeles, California. The University of Southern California Institute for Addiction Science seeks an experienced clinical research coordinator to fill a full-time Research Coordinator Supervisor position. The role focuses on managing single-site and multi-site clinical trials to evaluate new treatments for addiction, with a primary focus on GLP-1 receptor agonist medications. The candidate will assume a central leadership and project management role on project-specific activities, coordinate participant recruitment, supervise study staff, assist with consenting and interviewing as needed, oversee compliance with protocols and standard operating procedures, and assist with Institutional Review Board and regulatory compliance. The candidate will work closely with site PIs, research coordinators, clinicians, pharmacists, students, and study participants. The role also involves general project management for multi-site trials, ensuring training/certifications, and coordinating research procedures across sites, while collecting data to optimize participant engagement across sites. The position may also involve supervising general lab activities and coordinating with volunteers.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate participant recruitment and study activities for single-site and multi-site clinical trials.
- Supervise study research staff, interviewers, and consenters; assist with consenting and interviewing as needed.
- Oversee compliance with study protocols and standard operating procedures; assist with IRB and regulatory compliance.
- Communicate and collaborate with site PIs, research coordinators, clinicians, pharmacists, students, and participants.
- Assume general project management roles for multi-site trials, including coordinating research activities and project meetings.
- Ensure staff training and certifications are up to date and that research procedures are executed consistently across sites.
- Collect ongoing data on engagement and participation to optimize recruitment across study sites.
- Oversee supervision of project research staff, students, and volunteers in coordinating lab activities.
Minimum Qualifications (Required)
- Clinical research coordinator experience, including at least 5 years in a role involving recruitment of human participants; experience supervising research project staff.
- Certified research coordinator training documentation; experience managing and planning project budgets.
- Knowledge of medical environments and terminology; ability to work in a fast-paced clinic/hospital setting with participants and a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong attention to detail, excellent communication, ability to meet recruitment milestones and project objectives, and the ability to work autonomously.
- Graduate degree (Master’s or higher).
Preferred Qualifications
- 5–7 years of experience in clinical research assistant/coordinator roles.
- Project management experience and training/certification in project management.
- Fields of expertise: clinical sciences, pharmaceutical sciences, psychology, medicine, addiction medicine/substance use.
- Phlebotomy certification and CA State Phlebotomy License preferred but not required.
Compensation and Employment Details
- Salary range: $89,000 – $112,000 annually.
- Full-time staff position for 3 years with potential for renewal based on funding.
- Position funded through IAS Institute for Addiction Science, based in the Biobehavioral Addiction Research Lab (BARLab) on USC Health Sciences Campus.
- Final compensation decisions consider scope of responsibilities, experience, education, skills, internal equity, laws, funding, and market considerations.
- Minimum Education: Master’s degree; Minimum Experience: 5 years; Minimum Field of Expertise: Certified research coordinator; knowledge of GCP and HIPAA, budget management, MS Office, EDC/CTMS familiarity.
