Overview
Public Health Informaticist Associate Director role focused on leading health data modernization and interoperability initiatives for federal, state, local, territory, and tribal public health agencies, with emphasis on HL7 standards and data interoperability.
Responsibilities
- Lead multidisciplinary task teams to address complex modernization challenges for public health interoperability, agencies at federal, state, local, territory, and tribal levels, with emphasis on HL7 standards
- Provide technical and domain expertise to advise health organizations (public and commercial) on health data interoperability
- Lead research and technical analysis to design iterative health data modernization plans that prioritize interoperability
- Collaborate with stakeholders to develop modernization plans, technical frameworks, and pilot initiatives that enhance health data interoperability
- Present during meetings, summits, and working sessions with senior client executives
- Provide public health surveillance and interoperability subject matter expertise support across multiple client engagements; develop and review presentations, briefings, memos, and reports
- Identify client needs and develop solutions to address these needs
- Prioritize and handle multiple tasks, researching and analyzing pertinent client, industry and technical matters; communicate effectively in written and verbal formats to various audiences
- Scope and staff projects to meet client requirements; develop work plans reflecting project scope and client expectations
- Provide oversight and development of work products from brainstorming and framework development to final edits and end-product; reinforce quality standards
- Share experiences in the area of expertise with a focus on best practices
What You Will Need
- US Citizenship is required
- Master's degree is required
- Minimum seven (7) years of experience leading teams in public health informatics, epidemiology, research design, data analytics and data visualizations, including techniques for statistical analysis, predictive modeling, simulation, and machine learning
- Experience with ETL/ELT data transformation and data repositories (data lakes, warehouses, lake houses, etc.)
- Experience working with electronic case reporting (eCR) using CDA/c-CDA and/or FHIR formats for integration into systems and HL7 implementation guides
- Experience with public health code/value sets and health IT standards for data exchange (HL7 v2/v3/FHIR; ICD, SNOMED, LOINC)
- Hands-on experience with public health surveillance systems (state reportable, national notifiable, syndromic, vital statistics, etc.)
- Experience with electronic disease surveillance systems or data intermediary platforms (e.g., Rhapsody, Mirth, InterSystems)
- Proven track record in modernizing health programs for federal and state agencies with interoperability focus and knowledge of CDC, state, local, territorial, and tribal initiatives
- Experience supporting state/local and/or federal public health agencies and working with public health advisory organizations (e.g., CSTE, NACCHO, APHL, ASTHO)
- Experience briefing senior executives
- Experience managing a team of 5+ direct reports, including coaching and career development
- Strong oral and written communication skills
Nice to Have
- Experience integrating disparate public health data sources into data warehouses or data lakes/lake-houses
- Deep understanding of FHIR, APIs, and health data exchange across healthcare
- Experience as a state or local public health surveillance or informatics leader implementing health data standards
- Understanding of AI/ML, including large-language models (LLMs) in healthcare
- Proven revenue generation with existing and new clients (e.g., $2M+ annually)
- Experience managing multiple projects to timeline, scope, and budget across teams
Compensation and Benefits
The annual salary range for this position is $149,000.00-$248,000.00. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including skills, experience, security clearances, licensure, and other business needs. Guidehouse offers a comprehensive, total rewards package including competitive compensation and benefits.
