Blue Origin Turbomachinery Engineer

At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We're working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight! This role is part of the Blue Origin Engines business unit, where our focus is the design, development, manufacturing, and testing of engines and propulsion systems. Built for multiple uses, our family of engines is powering the next generation of rockets for commercial, civil, national security, and human spaceflight.

As part of a hardworking team of experts and engineers, you will support the development and execution of new designs, process improvements, and testing of turbomachinery components for various rocket engines and spaceflight systems. A key enabler of lowering the cost of access to space is to identify and drive design improvements. In this role, you will be responsible for developing the tools and strategic plan to guide the design team to executing new main turbopump design improvements. This role is primarily a data analytics role, but will also require skills in project planning and management to align with the larger turbomachinery team. The ideal candidate will show initiative to develop cost models, schedules, and conduct manufacturing investigations to find additional improvement opportunities. Your work will support the managing of new main turbopump design improvements and supporting new components through design, procurement, qualification, testing, and flight.

This role will primarily focus on managing the implementation of new configuration changes and incremental improvements for the most critical hardware on the engine. You will be responsible for developing new tools and metrics to track design improvements from concept to production through closure. The ideal candidate will earn the trust of the design, manufacturing, and business program teams by presenting data backed recommendations and strategic decision planning to drive improvements. You will be a critical leader in working cross-functionally to connect production, test, engine system, and program goals. We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. You will be reporting directly to a Turbomachinery Manager within the Engines business unit.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience: 6+ years of production management with an understanding of fabrication, assembly, and quality inspections.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills; ability to leverage data for decision-making and product prioritization.
  • SQL development experience including strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and drive data-driven decisions.
  • Excellent project management skills with a track record of successfully managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines.
  • Exceptional communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and influence cross-functional teams without direct authority.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong experience with Lean, Agile, and Scrum methodologies, and proficiency with tools like JIRA and Confluence.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead agile development processes.
  • Experience with manufacturing, warehouse, logistics or supply chain systems within aerospace.
