Principal Software Engineer

KBR is seeking a highly motivated Software Engineer to join us in supporting our great nation, supporting Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) development team in Colorado Springs, CO.

In this position, you will be responsible for the continued design and development of database models and backend-for-frontend software development. Additional responsibilities include interfacing with engineering partners from both private and government organizations, as well as direct communication with government stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, engineer, analyze, and develop software as part of a multi-disciplinary team
• Develop software architectures that align the system and customer requirements
• Engage with customers to better define the problem space and vision to determine capabilities and priorities
• Work across multiple technology stacks, various languages, frameworks, and tools to support a broad range of applications
• Work with DevOps and Cyber Security teams to ensure software development efforts align with the objectives of the larger team

• Location: Colorado Springs, CO Hybrid or Onsite
• Travel Requirements: Minimal

Required Qualifications:

• Security Clearance: Must have an active U.S. government Top Secret security clearance with the ability to obtain SCI SI/TK, which is something only a U.S. citizen can obtain
• Experience and Education: MS degree in Computer Science or Information Systems. Other degrees will be considered with relevant work experience
• Advanced proficiency in Java, and Java frameworks such as Spring Boot and Quarkus
• Experience with Python, C++
• Experience with Docker, AWS and/or Azure, and Kubernetes for containerization, cloud services, and orchestration
• Hands-on experience with Apache Kafka, Apache NiFi
• Experience developing software interfaces for Link 16 and JREAP-C messages
• Experience developing applications that interface with multiple message types, such as xml, and protocol buffers (protobuf)
• Ability to work independently to research and solve customer pain points
• Strong passion for conducting research, tackling complex problems, and continuously learning and adopting new technologies
• Proficient in using GitLab for version control, CI/CD pipelines, and collaboration
• Experienced in implementing Agile Software Development methodologies for efficient and iterative project management
• MUST live within 1 hour of Colorado Springs, CO. Relocation assistance will not be offered.

Desired Qualifications:

• Experience with Apache Artimis, ActiveMQ, or other IoT message brokers
• Experience developing software solutions for DoD accredited systems
• Experience developing software for communication systems
• Working knowledge of MIL-STD-6016 and MIL-STD-3011
• High level of curiosity and investigative mindset with an attention to detail, a tenacity of thought, the flexibility to adapt to new challenges, and the resiliency to overcome short-term hurdles by staying focused on the team's deliverables

Basic Compensation:

$138-207k

The offered rate will be based on the selected candidate's knowledge, skills, abilities and/or experience and in consideration of internal parity.

Additional Compensation:

KBR may offer bonuses, commissions, or other forms of compensation to certain job titles or levels, per internal policy or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be in the form of sign on bonus, relocation benefits, short term incentives, long term incentives, or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
