The Opportunity

This position works out of our Tech Center in St. Paul, MN in the EP division.

In Abbott’s Electrophysiology (EP) business, we’re advancing the treatment of heart disease through breakthrough medical technologies in atrial fibrillation, allowing people to restore their health and get on with their lives.

We are looking for a high caliber Principal Human Factors Engineer to lead the execution of the human factors engineering process for critically important products and product lines with the purpose of meeting divisional growth objectives. Creates detailed human factors project plans and manages other human factors resources to meet project goals. Leads customer research, use-related analysis and usability requirements development, conceptual and interaction design development, usability testing, and validation. Responsible for ensuring that the human factors/usability engineering process is exercised across product lines. Applies advanced human factors methods and principles to the design and evaluation of complex systems.

What You’ll Work On

Responsibilities include directing and coordinating all activities necessary to complete Human Factors engineering projects. Activities include, but are not limited to:

  Conducting ethnographic user research to identify user needs.

  Translating user needs to requirements and product design concepts.

  n

• n

  Developing prototypes to explore and validate product design concepts.

  n

• n

  Performing workflow, task and use error analyses.

  n

• n

  Conducting Formative Usability testing.

  n
n
• n

  Conducting Summative Validation testing.

  n
n
• n

  Participate on development program teams to ensure human factors principles are considered and implemented.

• n

  Create and communicate project plans and deliverables.

  n

• n

  Manage time to meet project deadlines.

  n
n

Required Qualifications

n
• n

  B.S. degree in Human Factors Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Cognitive Psychology, Anthropology, Human-Computer Interaction or a related discipline.

  n
n
• n

  Minimum of 9 years of relevant Human Factors/Usability engineering experience in hardware-software systems product development with a B.S Degree or minimum of 7 years of relevant Human Factors/Usability engineering experience in hardware-software systems product development with a M.S Degree.

  n

• n

  Proven ability to apply knowledge of Human Factors principles (human performance and limitations – perceptual, cognitive, motor skills, anthropomorphic) and techniques (user research, user-interface design, usability testing) to the design, development, and evaluation of hardware and/or software products.

• n

  Experience leading Human Factors activities across the product lifecycle, including ethnographic research, user needs identification, workflow and task analysis, requirements development, user interface design, user error analysis, usability and validation testing.

  A proven ability to work with cross-functional teams and provide technical leadership.

• n

  Experience with software and/or hardware user-interface design.

  n
n
• n

  Proven ability to interface with customers in a highly professional manner.

  n

• n

  Ability to quickly assimilate advanced domain knowledge.

  n
n
• n

  Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.

  n

• n

  Ability and desire to travel, including internationally.

  n

Preferred Qualifications

• n

  M.S. or Ph.D. degree in one of the above disciplines.

  n

• n

  Experience in medical device development.

  n
n
• n

  Working knowledge of cardiac electrophysiology.

  n
n
• n

  Working knowledge of Human Factors/Usability Engineering regulatory standards.

The base pay for this position is $111,300.00 – $222,700.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
