This position will be located in Raritan, NJ; Spring House, PA; or Beerse, BE and will require up to 5% local travel between sites, in addition to other domestic travel.

The R&D Advanced Computing & Data Sciences team is part of a broader R&D Engineering organization that works on leading-edge technology solutions to drive the Innovative Medicine R&D business. R&D Advanced Computing & Data Sciences is made up of a group of technical engineers and solution architects engaged in the hands-on delivery of business solutions. Team members typically work directly with business partners in delivering solutions. The team prides itself on being closely involved in all aspects of deployments, including assisting with defining business value propositions and user story collections, designing robust solution architectures and implementing the technical solutions. Our mission is to architect, design and implement the best technology to deliver high performing, scalable, reusable and cost optimized solutions across the IM R&D organization, enabling opportunities and significant business value that could not have been accomplished before, accelerating medicine to patients who are waiting.

The Principal Engineer, Platform/Cloud Engineering will be a part of this team, providing technology leadership, assessing and influencing technology strategy roadmaps, being at the table with business partners, solution architecting/designing, implementing and deploying solutions to drive the overall Digital Imaging ecosystem and related disciplines.

The Principal Engineer, Platform/Cloud Engineering will:

• Be a key contributor in setting technology strategy/roadmaps, as well as lead and implement technology deployments to business partners in all areas of Digital Imaging, including but not limited to Digital Pathology, Digital Radiology and Clinical Imaging.
n
• Maintain strong partnerships with business partners in Pre-Clinical Sciences & Translational Safety, Oncology, Neuroscience, Immunology, Data Sciences, Molecular Imaging and others based on incoming demand.
n
• Contribute technology expertise to help identify and assess areas of greatest opportunity and impact for Digital Imaging technology platforms in pharmaceutical research and development at Innovative Medicine, and execution of Digital Imaging platform capabilities.
n
• Collaborate with numerous groups across the IT organization, engage and influence in sector and enterprise technology leadership, as well as partner externally with the Life Sciences industry Imaging community.
n
• Drive the team's technology stack, including capabilities for scheduling, communication, monitoring, reporting, alerting, deployment, orchestration, configuration management, infrastructure, reuse and reproducibility.
n
• Leverage the unique capabilities of cloud computing to deliver effective solutions.
n
• Establish long term sustainable operational processing and resource models.
n
• Stay abreast of the rapidly changing technology landscape and incorporate technologies such as containerization, serverless and accelerated AI / Machine Learning / Deep Learning / Agentic AI as appropriate to deliver business value.

• Exhibit capable and authentic technology leadership to learn from, develop, support, and motivate junior team members.

Qualifications

Education:

n
• A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree is required preferably in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Computational Science, or related field.
n
• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Computational Science, or related field preferred.
n

Qualifications:

• A minimum of 6 years of industry experience.
n
• Proven ability to lead technology platforms, programs, projects and apply technical acumen to create new opportunities is required.
n
• Experience with Python, Java, C++, or related complex programming language is required.
n
• Experience with AWS EC2 and S3 is required.
n
• Experience with functionality of Windows platforms is required.
n
• Experience with functionality of Linux platforms is required.
n
• Experience with technical vendor management is required.
n
• Experience working on cross functional and global teams is required.
n
• Experience working in a fast-paced collaborative environment is required.
n
• Experience with hands on GraphQL API implementation is preferred.
n
• Experience with visualization technologies and techniques is preferred.
n
• Experience working with Chef for configuration management is preferred.
n
• Experience with container functionality (Docker/Singularity/Kubernetes) and AWS EKS is preferred.
n
• Experience with GPUs for areas such as computational sciences, advanced AI / ML / Deep Learning image analysis and predictive model training is preferred.
n
• Experience working with high performance storage solutions is preferred.
n
• Experience implementing GxP projects is preferred.
n
• Experience working with Agile methodology is preferred.
n
• Familiarity with imaging technologies such as a PACS or similar image management solution, and/or related image analysis technologies is preferred.

• Experience with AWS Lambda is preferred.

• Experience working with High Performance Computing cluster technologies (e.g., Grid Engine, Slurm) is preferred.

• Experience with other major cloud providers such as Microsoft Azure and Google Compute Engine and is preferred.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is: $115,000- $197,800 USD
