Piping Project Engineer

As a Piping Project Engineer, you will be responsible for designing piping systems that comply with codes, contracts, and schedules for gas turbine power projects across the Americas. This role involves responding to technical inquiries, integrating and improving design requirements, and working closely with the parent company to establish timelines and obtain critical documents. You will expedite subcontractors and review progress reports and shop visits, ensuring project contracts, schedules, and requirements are meticulously analyzed.

Responsibilities

Develop piping system designs that meet code, contract, and schedule requirements.
Interpret and respond to technical inquiries from customers, vendors, and field personnel.
Collaborate with the parent company to establish timelines and obtain critical documents.
Expedite subcontractors with the purchasing department regarding engineering and manufacturing matters.
Review project contracts, schedules, and requirements to determine piping requirements and deliverables.
Participate in project kick-off meetings and maintain master document lists.
Review isometrics, P&IDs, and equipment drawings with minimal supervision.
Prepare piping component lists using P&IDs and reports from 3D models.
Extract reports from piping 3D models using SP3D.
Establish corrective actions to reduce nonconformance and improve quality.
Perform piping designs and understand piping design philosophy.
Understand pipe stress analysis and pipe supports.
Prepare specifications for piping fabrication, supports, hardware, and special elements.
Develop processes to ensure effective and optimized resource use and high-quality design packages.
Interface with EPC contractors, customers, and affiliated companies in meetings.
Handle technical information for the project with the purchasing department and project manager.
Resolve pending items found during or after project execution up to warranty expiration.
Assist the Application Engineering Group in evaluating customer specifications.
Maintain confidentiality and integrity at all times.
Perform multidisciplinary communication and multitasking.

Essential Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
• 5 to 10 years of directly related technical experience.
• Proficiency in B31.1 and B31.3 codes.
• Experience with procurement and stress analysis.
• Ability to generate Bill of Materials.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Master's degree in Engineering (desirable).
• P.E. license (desirable).
• Knowledge of 3D modeling software, particularly SP3D.
• Familiarity with Section II, PCC, MSS-SP, and PFI Codes.
• Familiarity with welding and NDE processes.
• Experience in industries such as Gas Turbines, Power Plants, Oil and Gas, and Paper Mill.

Work Environment

The work is based in the Lake Mary office, which serves as the North American headquarters for Plant Engineering. This office is multidisciplinary, involving mechanical, electrical, civil, structural, controls, and project management functions. The team consists of over 100 professionals. The role may involve one-hour technical phone interviews followed by onsite interviews. There is a possibility of converting to a full-time opportunity, though not guaranteed.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $85000.00 - $100000.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
