Per Diem RN for Pediatric Outpatient Specialties

The Pediatric Specialties Outpatient Division is looking for a dedicated Registered Nurse to join the Bernard & Millie Duker Children's Hospital at Albany Medical Health System. This per diem role will support various divisions, including Pediatric Pulmonology, Rheumatology, Infectious Disease, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, and Nephrology.

Position Overview

As an RN, you will work under the direction of a practice physician or advanced practice provider and be supervised by the Nurse Manager or Nurse Supervisor. Your responsibilities will include delivering direct patient care, conducting assessments, managing patient triage (both in-person and telephonic), and evaluating patient care plans. You'll collaborate effectively within a multi-specialty team to provide the best care for our young patients.

Key Responsibilities

• Measure and accurately document patient's vital signs, reporting any abnormalities to the treating provider.
• Collect and document comprehensive patient histories and focused physical assessments relevant to clinic visits.
• Administer medications and treatments as directed under the supervision of a physician or advanced practice provider.
• Participate in in-office procedures according to clinic specialty, documenting results in the electronic health record (EHR).
• Review and triage incoming test results, patient requests, and pharmacy renewals, facilitating call-backs as necessary.
• Utilize resources effectively to achieve patient outcomes while contributing to AMC, New York State, and National Quality data metrics.
• Delegate appropriate tasks to licensed practical nurses (LPN) and medical assistants (MA).
• Comply with The Joint Commission regulations and internal policies.
• Assist in the orientation and education of newly hired staff.
• Complete continuous and annual education to stay current with clinic practices.
• Provide health education to patients regarding their visits and overall wellness.

Minimum Qualifications

• An Associate's degree in a state-accredited Registered Nursing program.
• Current New York State RN licensure.
• CPR certification.
• 1-3 years of pediatric or ambulatory experience is preferred.
• Exceptional communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to effectively present information and address questions from patients, families, and colleagues.
• Familiarity with computer software, especially MS Word and Excel.
• Experience with electronic health records is preferred.
• Competence in administering medications via various routes and calculating medication doses.
