nANCC Magnet designated UPMC Passavant is currently hiring a Full-Time Patient Care Technician, Senior to support our PACU at the McCandless location.
nThe Patient Care Technician, Senior is a valued step in the UPMC Inpatient Patient Care Support Career Ladder, with opportunities for continued growth and advancement. Title and salary will be determined based upon education and patient care experience.
nOur Full Time PCT Seniors typically work four 10-hour shifts or three 12-hour shifts each week to cover daylight and evening shifts. NO weekend, overnight, or holiday shifts! Candidates with prior patient care experience are highly preferred and encouraged to apply.
n**Hired candidates will be required to attend Full-Time orientation (classroom-based and unit-based) at Passavant for up to two weeks prior to beginning in this role.
nResponsibilities:
n- n
- n Contributes to the universal unit activities including, but not limited to:nn n
o responding to call lights and telephones
no passing meal trays and transporting patients.
n- n
- n Must routinely perform the UPMC core nursing assistant responsibilities including:nn n
o ADLs (bathing, feeding, transporting, toileting, ambulating, turning and repositioning patients
no Point of care testing (inc. blood glucose)
no Weights & vital signs
no I&O
no Telemetry monitor application/reapplication
no HAC & PSI prevention (TEDs/SCDs)
no Simple dressings
no Placement and removal of restraints
no 12 lead EKG
no Bladder scan
no All specimen collections
no IV catheter removal and Foley catheter removal

- n Assists with physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies.nn n
- n Provides feedback to the RN regarding patient care and reports changes in patient status.nn n
- n Provides instruction to patients and their families under the direction of the RN. Constructively receives feedback and direction.nn n
- n Identifies and communicates learning needs to the unit director.nn n
- n Takes action to improve knowledge, skills and performance.nn n
- n Participates in self-review as requested by the unit director.nn n
- n Participates in project and committee work.nn n
- n Suggests and supports changes within the department.nn n
- n Assumes responsibility for assignment and views problems as challenges.nn n
- n Demonstrates awareness of behavior on the efficient functioning of the department.nn n
- n Strictly adheres to all policies and procedures relative to patient care and hospital related information.nn n
- n Complies with safety policies and procedures including standard precautions.nn n
- n Documents in the medical record according to established procedures.nn n
- n Performs assigned work in a timely and productive manner.nn n
- n Transports cardiac monitored patients within the hospital setting.nn n
- n Completes department clerical functions as needed.nn n
- n Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.nn n
- n Performs other duties as assigned.nn n

High school diploma or equivalent.

Must also have either
n n - n
2 years of healthcare experience, OR
n n - n
1 year of experience and enrollment in PT/OT/PA program with completion of at least one clinical rotation, or
n n - n
1 year of experience and completion of a bachelor's degree in a health sciences field.
n n - n
Annual completion of a professional contribution to be determined after hire
n n - n
Successful completion of patient care technician senior class
n n - n
Successful completion of basic information system training.
n n - n
Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
n n - n
Nursing Student that has completed one clinical rotation preferred Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic or currently enrolled in an EMT or Paramedic program preferred.
n n - n
Successful completion of a basic arrhythmia course and annual competency required.
n n - n
May, in the course of their duties, be in rooms where medications are stored or may transport medications when they transport patients. Transportation of medication is limited from one department to another.

Licensure/Certification/Clearances:

Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire

Act 34 Criminal Clearance with renewal

Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
n n - n
Act 33 with renewal
n n - n
Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
