Responsibilities

The Comprehensive Optometrist works in various clinics focusing on primary eye care and ocular disease with involvement in urgent eye care. Responsibilities include:

• Provide primary eye care including comprehensive eye examinations, problem-focused examinations, and contact lens fittings.

• Triages acute eye-related issues and provides urgent eye care including appropriate testing to diagnose, treat and manage ocular health conditions.

• Collaborate with ophthalmology department specialists and members of the healthcare community.

• Participate in teaching and research.

• Use professional judgment to resolve a wide range of issues and adhere to campus policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• Doctoral degree in optometry issued by an accredited school / college of optometry

• Optometry residency training

• Thorough knowledge of optometry and skills essential to the duties of the position

• Thorough knowledge of eye disease diagnosis

• Ability to communicate findings of examinations to patients effectively

• Strong communication and presentation skills

• Ability to work with diverse client groups

• Ability to provide direction and guidance to less experienced staff

• Ability to work collaboratively with staff, faculty, and healthcare community across the campus

• Effective interpersonal skills

• Professional skills in delivering eye care, treatment, and diagnostic services

• Demonstrated ability to use electronic medical record systems

Special Conditions

• May need to travel to satellite clinics

• Must be able to work various hours including evening or Saturday clinics

• Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical

Other Requirements :

• Vaccination compliance may be required; follow University policy on Vaccination Programs and any applicable public health directives

• Life-support certifications (BLS, NRP, ACLS, etc.) may require hands-on practice and in-person skills assessment
