The Department of Pediatrics at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center is recruiting a rehabilitation psychologist, rehabilitation neuropsychologist, or experienced clinical psychologist with an interest in pediatrics. The position provides an exciting opportunity to join the team at UNMH Carrie Tingley. UNMH is the only academic medical center and the only Level 1 Trauma Center in the state, which houses the only pediatric rehabilitation program in New Mexico. The faculty position will be through the Department of Pediatrics with a secondary appointment in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences/Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. This is an academic position. UNM comes under the scope of various loan repayment and loan forgiveness application opportunities for eligible providers. Albuquerque is a four-season city with elevation ranging from 4900-6700 feet, and enjoys year-round sunshine and moderate climate. The city is famous for its diverse cultures, New Mexican cuisine, unique architecture, and proximity to unlimited outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, snow skiing, fishing and golfing. New Mexico's great natural beauty and rich cultures have earned the designation "Land of Enchantment." The position responsibilities include: Clinical - psychological and cognitive assessments, direct interventions with patients and families and consultation as part of an inpatient rehabilitation team. The inpatient pediatric program provides services to pediatric patients who have experienced brain injury, spinal cord injury, stroke, amputation, complex medical conditions, and post-acute illness. This program also has a strong emphasis on providing services in an outpatient pediatric setting. There is an opportunity to develop an outpatient practice in an area of interest, with a need for experience in cognitive rehabilitation, chronic health conditions, trauma, and pain.
Consultation frequent multidisciplinary collaboration with providers from a range of medical subspecialties
Research - opportunity to participate in ongoing research projects or develop an independent research program
Education opportunities to supervise and provide didactic education to trainees in the two APA Accredited psychology internship programs in Albuquerque, with additional opportunities to provide education to all levels of medical school learners
Minimum Requirements:
- PhD or PsyD.
- Minimum one (1) year clinical experience.
- Successful completion of EPPP (Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology).
- Able to obtain medical licensure(s) in the state of New Mexico.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Educational, teaching and supervisory experience with trainees in multiple disciplines.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English.
- Experience providing interdisciplinary clinical services to an inpatient pediatric rehabilitation population.
- Post-doctoral experience or training in pediatric or rehabilitation psychology.
- Experience working on a multidisciplinary team and having a keen interest in working with children with traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, neurological disorders, and neurobehavioral problems.
- Experience in integrative behavioral health setting providing brief interventions to children and families.
- Strong clinical skills in motivational interviewing, brief solution focused therapy, and behavioral interventions.
- Ability to provide consultation to families, schools, and providers that address children with special healthcare needs challenging behaviors.
- A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse and underserved communities.
