Job Summary:
The Virtual Registered Nurse (VRN) plays a crucial role in delivering high-quality nursing care through advanced two-way audio/visual technology in collaboration with bedside nurses. This role involves assessing vital signs and monitoring patient data using specialized software, enabling effective care for a diverse patient population. In addition to nursing assessments and treatment assistance, you will play a key role in mentoring department staff and elevating nursing practices across the healthcare system.

This position is not remote. While encompassing elements of virtual care, this is a full-time role based on-site at our facility.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct virtual nursing rounds using video conferencing to assess and care for patients.

• Deliver virtual health assessments and treatment recommendations from the Virtual Command Center.

• Collaboratively create, implement, and monitor individualized care plans with care teams.

• Work closely with patients, families, and the healthcare team to develop and communicate the plan of care, including discharge planning.

• Prioritize patient care according to needs, advocating for patient and family concerns.

• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to enhance patient flow and meet organizational goals.

• Design and implement effective patient education strategies, assessing understanding to adapt teaching methods.

• Anticipate and address potential declines in patient conditions and respond to emergencies when necessary.

• Contribute to the development of hospital standards and guidelines.

• Support staff development by coaching nursing staff to achieve identified professional goals.

• Oversee preceptorships for new employees and students.

• Initiate and oversee projects that improve patient care and operational efficiency.

• Lead quality improvement initiatives to enhance safety and quality scores.

• Serve as a clinical resource, creating informational and educational materials to enhance nursing practices.

• Document all interactions in the Electronic Medical Record accurately.

• Ensure effective reporting mechanisms are in place to track program outcomes and support quality improvement initiatives.

• Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

• Graduate from an accredited nursing program with experience as a Registered Nurse.

• Current RN License from Virginia or a reciprocal compact state.

• BSN degree required.

• Minimum of three years of acute care nursing experience.

• AHA BLS Provider CPR certification.

• Proficient computer skills for data entry and information retrieval.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Familiar with Windows applications and software pertinent to the role.

Preferred:

• ANCC-recognized certification in a relevant specialty area.

For those hired into the External Temporary RN Program:

• Certification requirements (e.g., BLS, ACLS, etc.) must be met at hire or within designated time frames.
