Nursing Assistant I - Psychiatry Care

A Nursing Assistant I is sought for a dynamic role in our Geriatric, Crisis Stabilization, and Perinatal Psychiatry Unit (4 Neurosciences).

Position Offering:

The 4 Neurosciences unit includes specialized care for diverse mental health populations. Geropsychiatry features a 10-bed unit for geriatric patients addressing varied medical and mental health concerns. Crisis Stabilization includes 15 beds for patients needing acute mental health stabilization, while Perinatal Psychiatry is a dedicated 5-bed unit catering to psychiatric disorders during pregnancy or post-partum.

This role qualifies for the Nursing Support Incentive Program, offering up to $5,000 paid over a three-year commitment. This is a full-time position (36 hours weekly) with variable 12-hour shifts (7am-7:30pm and 7pm-7:30am) inclusive of weekend and holiday rotations. Orientation Schedule:
Monday and Tuesday - In person from 8am to 4pm; Wednesday - 8am to 10am Virtual and in person from 1pm to 5pm; Thursday and Friday - Virtual.

This position involves providing both routine and supportive patient care in various settings including hospitals and clinics, under the direct supervision of registered nurses or physicians.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Assist healthcare providers with examinations and procedures, ensuring proper equipment and supplies are available during emergencies.
2. In the psychiatric environment, provide reality orientation, participate in behavior modification plans, deliver support therapy, de-escalate crises, and ensure a safe therapeutic atmosphere.
3. Document patient information based on observations during care, alerting medical staff to significant changes in patient conditions.
4. Facilitate patient admissions and discharges, offering guidance and support throughout the process.
5. Administer care per established plans, including but not limited to measuring vital signs, collecting specimens, and providing personal care for daily activities.
6. Maintain cleanliness and organization in the work area by restocking supplies and assisting with logistical tasks.
7. Reinforce educational instructions provided by registered nurses or physicians and document patient understanding.

Licensure/Certification Requirements:
Must be listed as Nursing Assistant I with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services and hold Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Professional Experience Requirements:
Preferred six months of experience as a nursing assistant.

Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:
Must be fluent in verbal and written English and possess basic computer skills.
