A Nursing Assistant I is sought for the Geriatric, Crisis Stabilization, and Perinatal Psychiatry Unit.

Position Offering:

The 4 Neurosciences unit consists of three specialized adult areas focusing on distinct mental health populations. Geropsychiatry is a 10-bed unit aimed at geriatric patients with complex medical and mental health needs. Crisis Stabilization features a 15-bed unit dedicated to patients undergoing stabilization during acute mental health crises. Perinatal Psychiatry, a 5-bed unit, specializes in treating women affected by psychiatric disorders during pregnancy and postpartum.

This position offers eligibility for our Nursing Support Incentive Program, which includes a $5,000 bonus spread over a three-year commitment.

This is a full-time role requiring 36 hours per week, with variable 12-hour shifts (7am-7:30pm and 7pm-7:30am) and a rotation for weekends and holidays. A comprehensive benefits package is provided, including accrued PTO hours based on work hours. Candidates must be available for a mandatory week-long orientation conducted biweekly.

Orientation Schedule:
Monday and Tuesday - In person from 8am to 4pm; Wednesday - 8am to 10am Virtual and in person from 1pm to 5pm; Thursday and Friday - Virtual.

Summary:
This role involves delivering both routine direct and indirect patient care in a hospital, clinic, or home healthcare setting while operating under the supervision of a registered nurse or physician.

Responsibilities:

1. Assist healthcare providers with examinations and procedures, including the procurement of necessary equipment during emergencies.
2. In the psychiatric context, support patient reality orientation, engage in behavior modification therapies, provide informal support to patients and families, and manage patient de-escalation and safety.
3. Monitor, document, and report critical patient information to the supervising nurse or physician.
4. Support patients and families during admissions, orientations, and discharges.
5. Deliver care as per the patient care plan, including vital sign checks, specimen collections, wound care, and mobility support.
6. Provide assistance with daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, and feeding.
7. Maintain cleanliness in the work area, manage linens and supplies, assist in new employee orientations, and perform clerical functions when necessary.
8. Reinforce nurses’ and physicians’ patient education, ensuring understanding and distributing educational materials.

Education Requirements:
None required as long as all other position specifications are fulfilled.

Licensure/Certification Requirements:
Must be listed as a Nursing Assistant I with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services and possess Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Preferred Experience:
Six (6) months of nursing assistant experience.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Proficiency in verbal and written English, with basic computer skills.
