Nursing Assistant - Emergency Department

Job Summary

The Nursing Assistant plays a vital role in providing exceptional patient care in the Emergency Department. You will assist patients by safely transporting them using wheelchairs or stretchers, ensuring accurate documentation of services, and acting as an Observer for those needing constant supervision. Your responsibilities will also include performing general clerical duties to enhance the overall efficiency of the nursing unit while prioritizing patient safety and understanding their conditions.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Patient Care: Provide both direct and non-direct patient care under the supervision of licensed personnel, observing and reporting any changes in patient status to the assigned RN, and responding to urgent situations as directed.
2. Professional Development: Maintain current knowledge and certification, including BLS certification; serve as a preceptor to new employees and demonstrate professional relationships with colleagues.
3. Safety and Quality: Promote a 'Culture of Safety' by verifying patient identities, understanding emergency protocols, and adhering to hygiene guidelines while employing appropriate safety devices and interventions.
4. Technology: Use necessary software applications as per department standards and maintain proficiency during downtime.
5. Compliance: Adhere to legal and ethical standards; protect patient privacy and security; report any compliance concerns to appropriate management.
6. Patient and Family Centered Care: Engage with patients and families, respecting their preferences and involving them in care planning and implementation.
7. Age and Culture: Recognize and respond to the diverse needs of individuals, utilizing sensitivity and available resources to provide culturally competent care.

Job Requirements:

• Education: High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Experience: Previous experience as a Nursing Assistant or equivalent preferred.
• Skills:
• BLS - Basic Life Support certification.
• Basic medical terminology and computer skills.
• Effective communication and documentation abilities.
• Capability to interact efficiently with a variety of individuals.
